Strictly's Jayde Adams dubs same sex pairing 'completely natural'

Strictly’s Jayde Adams describes same sex partnership with pro Karen Hauer as ‘completely natural’ and dispels dancing stereotypes – before jesting that ‘boys ain’t strong enough’ to lift her

  • The comedian, 37, makes up one of this year’s two same-sex pairings with pro dancer Karen Hauer
  • It will be the first time she has danced since tragically losing her sister and disco dance partner in 2011, due to a brain tumour
  • Strictly will return live to BBC One at 6:45pm on Saturday evening

Jayde Adams has revealed that her same-sex Strictly Come Dancing partnership felt ‘like a completely natural thing’ as she dispelled dancing stereotypes.

The comedian, 37, admitted that her new pairing brings back childhood memories of dancing with her late sister, who died of a brain tumour in 2011.

Jayde, who competitively disco danced as a child, is partnered with pro dancer Karen Hauer in one of the two same-sex partnerships on this year’s show, sharing that the pair have a ‘sisterhood’.

Strictly’s Jayde Adams, 37, has described her same sex partnership with pro Karen Hauer as ‘completely natural’ – jesting that ‘boys ain’t strong enough’ to lift her

And jesting that ‘boys ain’t strong enough’ to lift her, she explained that she actually preferred the idea of lifting a woman rather than being lifted herself by a man.

Friday’s launch show revealed that Jayde, who is married to event director Clayton Wright, was set to take to the dance floor with Karen – who has previously reached the show’s final with stars such as Jamie Laing and Mark Wright.

Admitting she didn’t specifically ask for a male or female dance partner, Jayde said she was open to be put in a mixed or same sex couple by show bosses.

With some experience dancing alongside a woman as a competitive disco dancer – which she competed with her late sister Jenna – the comedian couldn’t be happier with the pairing, describing the partnership with Karen as a sense of ‘sisterhood’.

Strong: The 6ft2 star is also looking forward to lifting Karen around the dancefloor, admitting she feels more comfortable being on that side of the partnership

She told MailOnline and other publications: ‘I think my partnership with Karen is more about sisterhood. And if you’re in the dance world, which I was as a child, the sort of all-girl and all-male partnerships is quite commonplace.

‘Obviously it’s a new thing in these dance shows, the one that’s in Australia and the one that’s in America, but I think the world is changing and to me it just doesn’t seem like anything that is abnormal to me. It seems like a completely natural thing. ‘

Jayde’s sister Jenna passed away due to a brain tumour back in 2011, with the last time the comedian danced being with her.

Recalling her and Jenna’s partnership, Jayde continued: ‘When I danced with my sister, I was the base and I used to lift her all the time and actually the last time I danced was actually with my sister… so this felt really natural for me.’

The 6ft2 star is also looking forward to lifting Karen around the dance floor, admitting she feels more comfortable being on that side of the partnership.

‘I always thought it would be better if it was a woman because I would be able to lift her,’ she explained – before joking that she ‘didn’t want to offend the boys but they ain’t strong enough’.

Jayde described her and partner Karen as ‘both so strong in different ways’, explaining that their ‘completely different body types’ make a strong partnership.

Cast: Jayde and Karen are one of this year’s two same-sex couples, with last year’s winner Giovanni Pernice paired with radio presenter Richie Anderson

Supportive: She recently celebrated a 15 year anniversary with her husband Clayton, who has been showing support for his wife’s Strictly journey on social media
