Naomi Osaka Joins the 'Fortnite' Icon Series

Naomi Osaka — four-time Grand Slam champion, outspoken activist and multi-hyphenate entrepreneur — is joining Fortnite‘s Icon Series with a range of outfits and accessories.

Inside the collection, Fortnite has crafted several fantastical iterations of the tennis star’s style, including the “Naomi Osaka Outfit,” which arrives with the “Royale Racket Pickaxe/Back Bling,” and the “Dark Priestess Naomi Outfit,” which comes with the “Portalforger Paddle Pickaxe/Back Bling.” Additionally, the Naomi Osaka Set includes the “The Queen’s Cloudcarriage Glider” and the “Cursed Hazeboard Glider,” along with a new “Serve Stance Emote.”

Osaka is only the latest star to join the Epic Games title’s ever-expanding Icon Series, following the likes of Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Major Lazer, Marshmello, LeBron James and many more.

“I’ve been playing Fortnite for a long time – when I saw LeBron had joined the Icon Series, it made me want to join the Fortnite family too,” Osaka said in a statement. “It’s really amazing to be able to connect with so many people around the world.”

“The ‘Icon Series’ is the ultimate celebration of the most dynamic figures in culture for Fortnite’s audience of millions, and there’s no one more perfect than Naomi Osaka to join the Series as the first female athlete,” Nate Nanzer, Global VP of Partnerships at Epic Games, added. “Just as Fortnite is more than a game, Naomi is so much more than an athlete.”

Players can compete in the Naomi Osaka Cup on March 2 for a chance to unlock the Naomi Osaka Outfit, Dark Priestess Naomi Outfit, Royale Racket Pickaxe/Back Bling and Portalforger Paddle Pickaxe/Back Bling prior to their launch in the Item Shop.

Following the competition, Osaka’s outfits and accessories will become widely available in the game on March 3 at 7 p.m. ET. Take a look at the full collection in Fortnite‘s announcement video above.
