Emmerdale's Cain reaches out to grieving Liam in touching scenes

Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) was touched, as Emmerdale’s resident hard-man Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) reached out to him and offered support, and he did so in his own way.

The village GP, who is heartbroken in the wake of daughter Leanna’s (Mimi Slinger) death, refused to open up to wife Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) once again in tonight’s edition of the ITV soap.

Desperate to be alone, the grieving dad headed out for a walk, but he was approached by Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin), who simply wanted to reiterate that he was there for him if he needs him.

Liam, however, rebuked Charles’ support, revealing that he doesn’t believe in a god who would allow Leanna to die at such a young age.

Cain witnessed the showdown unfold, and feeling sympathy, he tracked Liam down at the cricket pavilion, where he offered him support.

The mechanic didn’t say anything, but rather just offered Liam a can of lager.

Liam, touched, accepted the gesture, as he opened the tin, while Cain, still silent, sat beside him and had a drink himself.

Before long, the duo had finished the six-pack.

Tearful Liam reached for the final can, and broke down once more. Cain watched from afar, evidently getting emotional.

Leanna was murdered by resident serial Killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) during harrowing scenes last week.

Meena, desperate to keep her murderous secrets hidden after Leanna had made a few shocking discoveries about her, tracked the young woman down at the bridge, before pushing her over the edge.

Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) discovered Leanna’s body the following day, and a police investigation subsequently took place, with the autopsy concluding that the 18-year-old’s death was a tragic accident.

The detective in charge of the case speculated that Leanna, having had too much to drink, stumbled and fell from the bridge.

Emmerdale continues Thursday July 15 at 7pm on ITV.
