Netflix’s The Crown has landed a total of 24 Emmy nominations with actress Corrin included in the Lead Actress category. The star was critically acclaimed for her performance as Princess Diana throughout season four and, as a fifth and sixth season has been announced, audiences are even more excited to see Elizabeth Debicki as the next iteration of Diana as well.

Long-time fans of The Crown wondered throughout its earlier seasons as to who will play Princess Diana.

British actress and newcomer Corrin was cast in the lead role in season four, with many praising her uncanny evocation.

However, the actress’ hard work has clearly paid off as she has been nominated for an Emmy, along with co-stars Josh O’Connor, Olivia Colman, Gillian Anderson, Helena Bonham Carter, Tobias Menzies, and Charles Dance.

In response to her nomination, Corrin posted an emotional statement on her Instagram.

The actress captioned a photo of the Emmy announcement, saying: “This is just BEYOND.

“Thank you so much @televisionacad and insanely proud of the whole @thecrownnetflix family. Seriously this is awesome.”

She continued: “ALSO want to say how honoured and proud I am to be nominated alongside these incredible women.” (sic)

Corrin was also in shock to be nominated alongside MJ Rodriguez, the first transgender woman to be nominated for an Emmy award, which was for her leading role in Pose.

The Diana actress added: “@mjrodriguez7 u are my absolute icon and the fact u might know my name because of this is mind blowing to me !!! [pray hands emoji].” (sic)

Fans of The Crown and celebrities were quick to respond, congratulating Corrin on her big moment.

Queer Eye’s Tan France said: “So well deserved [smile heart emoji].”

Another fan said: “Congratulations Emma!!! Very well deserved.”

Paloma Faith congratulated the star, saying: “Congratulations brilliant human x.”

“Congratulations, dear Emma and to the entire The Crown team! [heart emoji],” someone else commented.

While another viewer was clearly ecstatic at the news, writing: “FIRST TIME EMMY NOMINEE EMMA CORRIN!!!”

In the meantime, the main thing on fans’ minds for season five is how The Crown will portray the tragic events leading up to Princess Diana’s death.

The drama surrounding the marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) in the fourth season delighted fans as it gave an insight into their difficult relationship.

However, many criticised Charles’ treatment of Diana, as well as his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles (Emerald Fennell).

There is also concern about whether or not the series will feature Diana’s interview with Bashir in the forthcoming season.

A close source of the series told The Telegraph recently that “the scripts are already out there” and “it has all been written” for the next season.

Seasons 1 to 4 of The Crown are available on Netflix now.
