The rumour mill has been buzzing with speculation about the status of Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater's relationship.
Reports suggest that Broadway performer, Ethan, and Grammy-winning singer, Ariana, have been spending some time apart while Ethan works on resolving matters with his estranged wife.
The speculations about Ariana and Ethan's relationship began to surface after Ariana's recent split from her husband of two years, Dalton Gomez.
Since December, they'd been living thousands of miles apart as Ariana has been filming Wicked in the UK. However, the source has said that the couple were having problems before that.
During this time, co-stars Ariana and Ethan grew close while working together on the film, with Ariana playing Glinda and Ethan taking on the role of Boq.
On set, they were reportedly quite affectionate, holding hands in between takes.
However, Ethan has most recently been in a long-term relationship with wife Lilly Slater for over a decade. They tied the knot in 2012 and welcomed a son in August of the previous year.
“Ethan sat Lilly down a few days before the news broke about him and Ariana and said that he wanted a divorce,” a source told Us Weekly. “Lilly never saw it coming.”
Issuing a statement, Lilly criticised Ariana following the breakdown of her marriage.
“[Ariana’s] the story really. Not a girl’s girl,” she toldPage Six.
“My family is just collateral damage.”
As for Ethan and Ariana, a source told TMZ : "It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her. But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."
According to TMZ, Ariana and Ethan have been in separate towns for several weeks now. Ethan is currently in New York, dealing with the end of his marriage with Lilly Jay, while Ariana is expected to be back in Los Angeles soon. Despite their desire to see each other, the immediate future does not seem to hold any plans for a reunion.
Ethan and Lilly have a lot to work out, especially considering their shared responsibility of co-parenting their young son. Sources close to the situation claim that Lilly and Ethan have been communicating frequently, but mostly about their child.
Although both parties have maintained that they were no longer with their respective spouses when they started dating, the situation has reportedly been difficult for Lilly. A source told Page Six : “It’s horrible. They were high school sweethearts. They have a baby! She’s a wreck.”
