British rapper Drillminister has announced he is planning to run for Mayor of London to advocate for those who feel politically underrepresented.
The South London native is getting ready to begin his political career in the run-up to May's election, and insisted he is only the person in the race who truly represents Londoners.
He told HuffPost: “I didn’t really make the choice to go into politics. The public want someone to represent them.
“The people that talk to me through my social media, when people see me in the street, when I’m on the way to shows, when I’m at shows – they don’t feel represented."
He added: “They felt as though I was the perfect candidate. I just took up the responsibility. I didn't really choose this – it chose me.”
The rapper, who – given his name – is also an advocate for drill music, is known for his staple image of donning a balaclava and round gold glasses.
When asked if he would remove his mask should he be elected, Drillminister refused to do so, after saying he wears it to purposefully conceal his identity.
He hopes it will force the public to focus more on his message than his identity.
He continued: “We need a mayor that resembles what people recognise as a Londoner, as opposed to somebody dictating to them what a Londoner is.
“I am a Londoner just like everybody else. I get on the Underground just like everybody else. I don’t see myself as being above anybody else.
"I’m trying to relate to people of all classes, all races, and let them understand you shouldn't fear what you don’t understand.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover because I’m here to do some serious changes for London.”
In his manifesto, Drillminister vows to tackle issues surrounding transport, mental health services and housing in London.
The newbie politician believes that anything is possible, after referencing Donald Trump's journey to becoming US President, without having any political experience or background.
He added: "If Donald Trump, with no political background can become president, which person in Britain can tell me I am not gonna become London mayor?"
The rapper added: “He’s [Donald Trump] the most powerful man in the entire world.”
And when the aspiring Mayor of London, who has a mere 1,300 Twitter followers, was quizzed on what exactly he plans to do in terms of transport, he said he wants every TFL journey "to feel like first class".
