With The Only Way Is Essex celebrating 30 seasons this year, Chloe Brockett has spoken exclusively to OK! magazine about the best moments on TV, why people love it and what it means to her after having grown up watching the show before actually starring in it herself.
"I think TOWIE is such a hit because it's become part our culture," she explained. Chloe said that a wide range of people turn the telly on to watch the ongoings of their lives, with young girls being interested in "what we are wearing and where we're going" while the older audience "like it because they like listening to the drama". In short, there's a little something for everyone who switches it on for a little light entertainment.
Sharing how "shocked" she is at how many people stop her to tell her they watch the programme, the 21 year old said: "I had a British gas engineer tell me that he watched TOWIE yesterday – it always surprises me that it has such a wide audience."
TOWIE has given us many iconic moments, from Gemma Collins' 'you ain't ever gonna get this candy' line to James 'Arg' Argent buying Lydia Bright a micropig called Mr Darcy.
And while Gemma and Arg may have been some of the most enigmatic people to be on the programme, Chloe couldn't help but recall a specific moment shared between Lauren Goodger and Mark Wright – who were together for a whopping 11 years before calling it quits.
Back in 2011, Mark was seen rushing to get to Lauren after finding out she was getting a tattoo of his name removed. A shocking twist saw the on-off couple get engaged while the procedure took place as he swayed her with a giant ring. Chloe recalled: "I think one scene that was iconic was when Lauren got Mark's name lasered off of her and then he proposed to her and she said yes!"
Many of the OG cast members have since moved on from the programme, with new faces having come in to take their places. Joining the cast back in 2019, Chloe has consistently brought the drama with each series, especially with her feud with the Sims sisters as well as Saffron Lempriere. One instance even saw her throw an umbrella and storm off after appearing to be confronted by Saffron over her flirty chat with Frankie Sims' ex Harry Lee.
But after months of arguments with Saffron, the reality star took the high road and apologised for her actions with a peace offering of fish and chips. Fans praised her actions and Chloe herself feels it was a validating experience as there's been "quite a lot of growth with me as a person".
"I feel like before I was quite cutthroat with people in my life," she explained, going on to share that being "argumentative" is "definitely a side" that she has. But, now she's at a point where she can accept when she's in the wrong, showing that she's truly grown.
And luckily for us, she doesn't see herself leaving the programme any time soon – ensuring viewers will be able to see the next steps in her life and career. She said: "I've got so many more years to give so much more to give.
"When I get in a relationship I'd like it to be on TOWIE and my next steps like moving out, too, because I feel like I've grown up on the show. I feel like I've got a long time left on there."
Despite this, Chloe has insisted she's single and took the opportunity to clear up any confusion about her relationship with Jordan Brook. The pair were said to be "growing close" after a photo emerged of them looking cosy on a night out, but Chloe has shared they are just friends.
She explained: "We literally went on a night out as friends and there were other people there. We posed for a photo on social media – which made us look like we were married. I was really annoyed about that."
And prior to this snap, she was linked to Miles Nazaire from Made In Chelsea. The pair decided to go their separate ways after realising they weren't "very similar to each other". But it appears they've remained friends as Chloe said she still "likes" him and said he's "really nice".
It's no secret that the star's life completely changed after joining the show as prior to being cast she was on her way to becoming a hairdresser. Having gone through the training, however, she found that while she enjoyed speaking to people, the act of cutting and styling hair wasn't for her. Speculating what industry she may have gone into if TOWIE had never become an option, she said: "I might have gone into PR or become a journalist, who knows!"
She continued: "Being on TOWIE has given me the freedom to basically do what I like. When I'm not filming, I'm on social media, influencing and stuff like that. I don't just sit back and realise it often enough, it has completely changed my life."
Although she manages to keep things light with her influence on social media, she has used it to highlight the importance of getting a smear test done after a family member was rushed to hospital following test results that showed "abnormal pre cancerous cells".
Sharing exactly what happened, she told OK!: "Four years ago, a member of my family come back with slightly abnormal results. She went and got the test and they came back showing the cells were in stage three, which was basically one away from being cancerous, which is terrifying."
Her family member underwent a colposcopy, which is a diagnostic procedure to visually examine the cervix, after doctors went in to remove the pre-cancerous cells. "The results came back within four or five days and they managed to get everything."
She continued: "It's really nice that women are speaking out more about it because they should, I think it's just so important."
