Danny Miller’s wedding afterparty with bouncy castles, face painting and treasure hunt

zAfter a spectacular and emotional wedding to remember, the celebrations for newlyweds Danny Miller and Steph Jones continued in style on day two of their festivities.

With only an hour’s sleep under his belt after a 5am finish, Danny seemed surprisingly fresh, while his new wife Steph was glowing as she slipped into her third bridal outfit of the weekend.

And it was a good job there was no rest for the wicked, with a full day of activities and entertainment in store for their 80 guests.

Wanting their celebrations to last as long as possible, the couple pulled out all the stops and hired their stunning wedding venue Nunsmere Hall Hotel for four days.

“We wanted it to feel a bit like a holiday. We thought about getting married abroad but we knew it would be expensive for everyone, so this way it was able to feel like a holiday and we could enjoy everything for longer than a day,” says midwife Steph, 30.

A funfair theme took over day two, with the grounds of the Cheshire country house hotel being filled with a series of huge inflatables, including a bouncy castle and a giant dart board.

There was also face painting and a treasure hunt led by Captain Jack Sparrow for the kids.

The grounds had been decorated with an extravagant jungle-themed balloon display featuring pandas, elephants and giraffes, as well as a tepee featuring a balloon arch.

The couple’s adorable nine-month-old son Albert was particularly taken with a tiger from the display and couldn’t wait to sit on it for a picture with his proud mum and dad.

Danny and Steph had tied the knot the day before in front of 140 of their friends and family in the beautiful grounds of the hotel, which features a woodland lake.

Many of the seats at the ceremony were filled by Danny’s former Emmerdale co-stars, including Lucy Pargeter, Emma Atkins, Charley Webb, Jeff Hordley and Isobel Steele, while Waterloo Road actor Adam Thomas and his brother, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas acted as ushers.

Both Isobel and Adam joined Danny and Steph the following day, with Adam bringing along his children Teddy, seven, and four-year-old Elsie who he shares with his wife Caroline.

Isobel, 21, who plays Liv Flaherty in the ITV soap, told OK! she was feeling a little worse for wear, but she says it was all worth it for the time she had at the pair’s nuptials.

“I really enjoyed the wedding,” says Isobel. “It’s been a long time in the waiting and I think everyone has been really excited about it.

“I didn’t sort my outfit out until literally the week before, which is always the case. It was so much fun and we’re just so happy for Danny and Steph.

"Emmerdale is one big family and it was really nice to see people from work not at a work event and just there to celebrate Danny and Steph.

"Danny’s got some really good mates from work who really back him and it was just nice to dance with everyone and have a good time.”

Isobel goes on to explain how she didn’t think Danny would ever get married, but seeing Steph coming into his life changed everything. “It’s been so nice seeing Danny settle down,” she says.

“I was laughing about it yesterday. I never thought I’d be at Danny’s wedding.

"I never thought he’d get married. I just think he hadn’t met the right person, and then Steph came along and it was obvious pretty quicky she was right,” Isobel adds.

Guests were able to cure their sore heads with a huge hog roast served in the hotel, alongside some coleslaw and potato salad, and it wasn’t long before the drinks were flowing again.

And while Danny and Steph seemed to be dealing with their wedding hangovers rather well, this soon changed when Albert, who currently has reflux, was sick on Danny’s shoulder!

“As people will have seen on I’m A Celebrity… I don’t have the best gag reflex. Even brushing my teeth makes me gip. It had a garlic smell and it tipped me over!” he says.

Thankfully the 31-year-old had a clean shirt he could change into, which he was supposed to be saving for his mini-moon, so the celebrations could continue.

And Isobel tells her favourite memory of Danny – who played her on-screen half-brother Aaron Dingle – and Steph was when the star was crowned King of the Castle.

“It’s funny because Danny wasn’t actually present in this memory but he was on FaceTime,” explains Isobel.

“He’d just won I’m A Celebrity… and become King of the Castle. We were all watching it at Adam Thomas’s restaurant The Spinn and Steph was completely made up. Steph rang Danny and it was really emotional and I was like, ‘This is proper cute.’”

The day before, Barry [Steph’s dad] had also joked to guests about his new son-in-law’s successful turn on the ITV show last year. “If you would have told me a few years ago that Steph would’ve married into royalty, I wouldn’t have believed you! He treats our daughter like a princess,” he said.

He then referred to Danny as “your majesty”, before adding, “Danny became Steph’s knight in shining armour and took her under his wing and helped her overcome her demons. Joyce [Steph’s mum] and I can’t thank him enough for that.

"She knows without question that her mother and I love her very much and are very proud of her. Danny, we are so pleased to have you as part of our family, so much so that Joyce has added you to our WhatsApp group!”

In the afternoon, singer Jordan Phillips entertained everyone as they tucked into their food on the terrace, before singing Danny’s niece Callie, who has cerebral palsy, Happy Birthday and presenting her with a cake to mark her third birthday.

Guests were then welcomed back into the wedding marquee for some more performances, while Steph’s dad’s band, Mind The Gap, took to the stage to perform some 80s classics.

Diehard Liverpool fan Danny, whose dogs Ginny and Kenny are named after former Liverpool player Georginio Wijnaldum and manager Sir Kenny Dalglish, even joined his new father-in-law Barry for a rendition of the club’s song You’ll Never Walk Alone.

This was followed by a performance by Oasis tribute band Fakermaker, which rounded off day two of the couple’s celebrations.

“We wanted everything to have a real family feel to it,” says Danny. “That’s why we had Steph’s dad performing and my mum made our wedding cake. We wanted everyone to be involved.”

One family member who played a big part was the couple’s son Albert. “We know he won’t remember much of this but I honestly think it was the best day of Albert’s life as he was just so happy,” says Danny.

“Every time we rehearsed him coming down the aisle he loved it, but we were worried he might be spooked by everyone looking at him. But then when it happened he seemed to love it even more!”

“He is such a happy baby,” Steph tells us from their mini-moon at Carden Park in Cheshire. “He only cries if he needs feeding or wants his nappy changed, and he loves being around people.”

The pair left their son with Steph’s mum for two nights of their mini-moon so they could enjoy some quality time as husband and wife before planning their honeymoon later in the year.

“Our little family is everything and we’re inseparable,” continues Steph. “We take Albert almost everywhere with us because we love being a trio. That feeling when he looks at you and you know he really loves you and that he’s ours is just amazing.”

And so with the pair relishing every moment of being parents to their first-born, we can’t help but wonder if baby number two could be on the cards for the newlyweds?

Danny tells us, “I joked in my speech there wouldn’t be any more grandchildren for our parents, but Steph means the world to me and she’s given the best thing in life to me which is Albert.”
