Concerns over the coronavirus pandemic have caused Dennis Quaid to postpone his wedding to much-younger fiancée Laura Savoie.
“We postponed … once we started to hear about [coronavirus in] Italy,” Quaid recently told Extra. “We have a few members of the family and friends who have low immune systems due to medical treatment, medical issues going on. We decided, ‘Let’s just postpone.’”
The 65-year-old “Parent Trap” actor was supposed to wed 26-year-old Savoie at Craig T. Nelson’s home in Kauai, Hawaii on April 4.
“It was going to be nice and small,” Quaid said, adding, “Now, we may do something closer to home. We’re going to wait for this to lift.”
And Savoie already has her wedding look ready for when that day comes.
“The dress was already ordered and somehow it made it here from Spain,” he said.
He reaffirmed that following the CDC’s advice to practice social distancing takes priority over their wedding.
“I think everyone needs to obey the rules,” he said. “We are hunkered down. There is a lot of time to catch up on things.”
Page Six reported last week that the wedding was delayed because of “travel issues.”
The couple got engaged in October 2019, with Quaid presenting a five-century-old ring to Savoie while vacationing together in Hawaii.
Page Six confirmed he was dating the University of Texas student in June 2019 after meeting at a business event.
Quaid has defended their 39-year age gap, saying in November 2019, “I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me…You have no control over who you fall in love with. I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
Quaid previously dated model Santa Auzina after his 16-year marriage to Kimberly Buffington ended in 2018. He was also married to Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001 and P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983.
He shares son Jack, 27, with Ryan and twins Thomas and Zoe, 12, with Buffington.
Meanwhile, Savoie was previously linked to Jeremy Piven.
