Gemma Collins has issued a health update after a “scary few days” that saw her beloved mum Joan rushed to hospital.
Gemma, 42, was over the moon to announce that Joan had been discharged and was now at home and very much on the mend.
“Mum’s home and I have Tom Griffin here for some healing. Welcome home nanny,” the star wrote, reassuring her 2.2 million Instagram followers.
Gemma, who recently revealed her brand new "job," also shared a sweet clip of her mum returning home, using the support of a Zimmer Frame.
It comes after the former The Only Way Is Essex cast member took to social media to thank all the hospital staff that looked after her mum.
“'Such a scary moment when Mum comes to hospital. Thank you Queens Hospital Romford for all you're doing,” she wrote, while sharing a picture of Joan with a feeding tube in her nose.
Gemma hasn’t shared what exactly prompted the sudden hospital admission, but has talked about her mum’s health struggles in the past.
Back in March, Gemma shared that she had decided to undergo testing for the BRCA gene, known colloquially as the “cancer gene” after her mum Joan had found a cancerous lump between her breast and her armpit.
In a candid interview with The Sun, Gemma recalled the moment she learnt of her mum’s diagnosis.
“'It was over the phone. I was in the back of a taxi in London and I was like, 'Are you all right, mum? Where are you?' — as we say every day, ten times a day,” Gemma said.
“She said, 'Ah I didn't want to tell you, but I've had a lump in my breast',” the star added, before explaining that her mum had had the lump caught “in the nick of time.”
Gemma’s mum kept it a secret from her daughter as Gemma was in the midst of filming her reality series Diva Forever, which was released in 2020.
Although Joan was eventually given the “all clear”, she now attends regular screenings.
Gemma says she hopes her mum’s story will encourage others to check.
The star, who found fame on The Only Way Is Essex, hasn’t revealed the results of her own gene test just yet, but there are other celebs who’ve spoken out about finding out they have the gene.
Famously, actress Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy after she found out she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer as a result of the BRCA gene.
The Mr and Mrs Smith star underwent the testing after her own mother, Hollywood star Marcheline Bertrand, died of breast cancer.
