Holly Willoughby has one big positive to take away from her turbulent year – it has brought her closer to her husband Dan Baldwin, with a source telling OK! the couple have “fallen in love all over again”.
The This Morning presenter, 42, has been holidaying with her husband and three children at their £2 million summer home in Portugal during her break from the show.
And the family getaway is said to have done the world of good for Holly and Dan.
“Holly has tunnel vision for Dan and their beautiful life together and, at the moment, nothing else matters apart from making memories,” our source claimed.
“They’ve not spent as much time together over the last decade as they have in the last few months. It’s like they’ve met for the first time.”
As well as revealing her impressive figure in new beachside snaps, the fun-fuelled trip and their 16th wedding anniversary at the beginning of the month are said to have “put things into perspective for Holly”.
“They’re sweeping each other off their feet all over again,” our source added.
This year, Holly’s break from This Morning is longer than usual, after a rough few months in which the programme and its presenters were embroiled in scandal.
Longtime host Phillip Schofield, 61, stepped down from the ITV breakfast show at the end of May amid rumours of a feud between him and Holly, before he admitted to a fling with a former male colleague on This Morning, which he called “unwise but not illegal”.
As well as learning of her friend’s deceit – “You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth,” Holly told viewers – she also came under fire with suggestions she knew about the relationship and that she should step down as well.
Holding her head up high two months on, Holly appears to be putting the drama to one side, after being spotted splashing around in the sea in the Algarve with her TV producer husband and their children Harry, 14, Belle, 12, and eight-year-old son Chester.
“The drama on This Morning has proven that no matter how complicated careers become and no matter what the future holds for her on TV, the only people who matter are her husband and their kids,” our source said.
“She’s spent almost every hour of the summer with her children – they’re helping to take her mind off things at ITV.”
In Phillip’s tell-all interview following the scandal about his private life, he admitted that he and ex-pal Holly are no longer speaking, following his shocking admission about the affair.
“I’ve lost my best friend,” he said at the time. “I let her down. I let that entire show down. I let the viewers down. Holly did not know. And she was one of the first texts that I sent, to say, ‘I am so, so sorry that I lied to you’.
“She didn’t reply and I understand why she didn’t reply as well. If anyone is in any way linking Holly to this – that is absolutely, wholly untrue.”
Whatever her future at ITV looks like, it seems as though Holly is feeling ready to move on with her life post-Phil, as she and Dan’s anniversary celebration provided the perfect distraction from the emotional turmoil. In her wellbeing brand Wylde Moon’s weekly newsletter, she admitted she couldn’t believe how fast the couple’s time together has flown by.
“It will be 16 years this year, which feels crazy in so many ways,” she wrote. “I often think about us and the glue that binds us together. Every relationship is so unique and different – what works for one couple may not for another.”
Giving an insight into what makes their marriage work, she revealed the key to her and Dan’s happiness is making sure they always “carve out real time” for each other, “within the madness of everyday life”.
“Everything from making time to talk over dinner at home to date nights. Whatever you do to keep the spark alive, keep it up,” she added.
And our source said that on top of making time for her husband and kids around the demands of her career, Holly is also using her break from ITV as an opportunity to recharge her own batteries.
“Holly is getting to know herself as a woman, a wife and a mum again, as opposed to ‘Holly Willoughby from This Morning’,” they explained.
“She’s taking time for herself – looking after her body and her mind.”
The presenter appeared to be in good spirits, soaking up the sun and enjoying a dip in the ocean, while wearing a chic black swimsuit and shades.
“Dan is grateful to see Holly properly smiling again,” our source added. “He’s loving her newfound confidence.”
