Joe Jonas tried to 'salvage' marriage to Sophie Turner

Joe Jonas tried to ‘salvage’ marriage to Sophie Turner and filed for divorce as a ‘last resort’ as he had to do what was ‘best’ for their two daughters

An ‘unhappy’ Joe Jonas reportedly tried to ‘salvage’ his four-year marriage to Sophie Turner before he filed for divorce on Tuesday as a ‘last resort.’

The Jonas Brothers singer, 34, and the Game of Thrones alum, 27, ‘were going through it this year’ according to a source who spoke with Page Six.

‘Divorce was a last resort for Joe. He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls,’ the insider added.

The pair – who reportedly have an ironclad prenup – share three-year-old daughter Willa and a one-year-old daughter, whose name they have not revealed, but who was listed as D.J. in the divorce filing.

The source went on: ‘An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported.’

‘It just kept building, and Joe finally reached a point where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage.’

It comes after reports that Sophie’s lifestyle is what caused her estranged husband to file for divorce.

The actress allegedly ‘likes to party’, which caused a clash with the musician, who is more of a homebody.

‘She likes to party; he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles,’ a source revealed to TMZ.

Jonas officially filed for divorce from Turner after four years of marriage, stating in paperwork that their relationship is ‘irretrievably broken’.

He submitted the paperwork to end his marriage in a Miami Dade County courtroom – hours after it was revealed that he had hired a divorce lawyer.

Despite their differing lifestyles, the estranged couple will most likely not be fighting over money amid their divorce, as they have an ‘ironclad prenuptial agreement in place,’ according to The Blast.

Jonas will keep all of his royalties from music, while Turner will keep the money she made from her acting career.

Both will get to keep any property they acquired prior to their marriage, and they will only have to split their marital home.

The couple recently sold their Miami mansion, which they just purchased last year.

The only unknown at the moment is the pair’s custody and child support, which will be decided by the judge.

The amount of child support will be determined by their monthly salaries, and who is making more money. That can also be re-negotiated if one party begins to make more money in the future.

Joe has been busy touring with his brothers, and bandmates, Nick, 30 and Kevin Jonas, 35.

The Jonas Brothers 2023 tour kicked off on August 15 at TD Garden in Boston, and will conclude on October 14 at Kaseya Center in Miami.

While Joe has been on tour with his band, Sophie has been filming the ITVX drama Joan in the UK since May.

Court documents obtained by DailyMail.com reveal that Jonas stated his marriage to Turner is ‘irretrievably broken’ – and lay out the former couple’s plans to share custody of their daughters.

The paperwork lists Willa by her initials, W.J., and hints at their other daughter’s name, listing her as D.J.

In the marriage dissolution petition, Jonas’ lawyer states: ‘It is in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility.’

Jonas ‘respectfully requests’ in the documents that he and Turner ‘establish a parenting plan’ and a ‘timesharing schedule’, with Willa and D.J.’s primary residence listed as Miami, Florida, where he and Turner had been living.

The documents also state that the parties ‘entered into a valid and enforceable prenuptial agreement’ on April 29, 2019 – days before they tied the knot in Las Vegas.

Jonas’ lawyer did not include the pre-nup in the dissolution filing in order to ‘protect the privacy rights of both parties’, however the documents further suggest that he has no plans to request child support from Turner, stating: ‘Both parties have the ability to provide for the support of the minor children and they should both be required to contribute to the support of the minor children.’

Jonas is being represented by West Palm Beach-based attorney Thomas J. Sasser in the divorce, while Turner’s business manager, Carrie Malcolm, is listed as her main point of contact in the paperwork.

Sasser is an in-demand attorney to the stars who was previously hired to handle Tiger Woods’ high-profile divorce from wife Elin Nordegren in 2010. The Swedish model received a $100m settlement from the professional golfer.

Sasser, a managing partner at Florida-based law firm Sasser, Cestero & Roy, also represented NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon during his divorce from wife, model Brooke Sealey, in 2003. He was allegedly hired by Gisele Bundchen during her split from NFL star Tom Brady last October.

Jonas’ decision to hire Sasser comes after he was pictured on August 11 not wearing his wedding ring.

However, for a performance alongside his brothers in Austin, Texas, on September 3 it was firmly back on his finger and Turner was said to be at the concert.

The couple, who first started dating in 2016 after being introduced by mutual friends, got engaged one year later, flaunting their pending nuptials on Instagram with similar captions of ‘I said yes,’ and ‘She said yes.’

Tying the knot two years after their engagement with two ceremonies — the first, a private intimate affair in Las Vegas with a second, grander wedding in Paris, Jonas and Turner appeared to be a perfectly happy couple.

Turner gushed about her husband in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in May 2022 and said she knew that he was the one almost immediately.

When Fallon asked Turner when she knew she’d marry Jonas, she replied: ‘I mean the first night I met him.’

However, in spite of the picture perfect public image the two projected, behind the scenes trouble has been brewing for months, according to TMZ.

Sources told the outlet that the couple have been having ‘serious problems’ behind the scenes.
