It wasn’t that long ago when Kendall Long and Joe Amabile announced they broke up. The former Bachelor in Paradise couple was living together before they split. Now Long is talking about how awkward it was to still live together after making their decision to go their separate ways.
Kendall Long and Joe Amabile broke up
The couple met and fell in love while filming Bachelor in Paradise Season 5. They finished the season by continuing to date. Amabile then danced on Dancing with the Stars.
Long and Amabile recently moved in together and got a dog. However, they announced they broke up because of their differences.
“We have decided mutually to go our separate ways. Joe has made the decision to move back to Chicago while Kendall will be remaining in her hometown of Los Angeles,” their statement read according to Us Weekly. “Our family and friends have always been an extremely important element to who we are as people. We can’t imagine continuing our lives without them closer, especially when thinking of starting a family of our own one day.”
It then added, “We both respect each others’ decision and still have a great deal of love for each other. We appreciate all the love and support everyone has given us throughout our relationship.”
Long said she was surprised
Long later talked about the breakup on Instagram. She admitted that she wasn’t expecting it.
“I did not see it coming,” she said on Instagram, according to Us Weekly. “Every relationship has issues but I feel like — with Joe and I — we were best friends. Everything was fun, we were getting a dog together. We had just moved in … Ultimately what happened was that Joe felt like he would have a better [life] in Chicago.”
There was a reason why she thought their relationship would last longer. “I was thinking, ‘We have a year with the lease.’ That was the timeline for me,” she said. “In no way can I ever be upset with him and have [resentment] toward him changing his mind and choosing to move because I understand the stresses of living somewhere like L.A. away from your family. That was also a huge reason why I didn’t see myself moving from L.A. at least at that point in my life.”
She said living together was a little awkward
Long talked about their breakup and differences with Entertainment Tonight. She gave her reaction to the decision.
“It was a little bit of a surprise,” she said. “But I think, ultimately, Joe foresaw his happiness and work in Chicago, and I can’t resent him because of that. And for me, I just never foresaw a future there.”
She went on to say how this became make or break for their relationship. “So I think that it became an ultimatum within itself, where either I move to Chicago or we break up, and I didn’t really wanna have a relationship like that,” Long said.
The former contestant talked about the experience of living together after breaking up. “[It was] a little awkward, but I feel like it helped us get everything out of the way,” she admitted. “So we had no questions and we just agreed mutually that it was best that we separated.”
Long said they still talk “every few days.” They also don’t talk negatively about each other.
