Global superstar Madonna has been forced to postpone her 40th anniversary tour after she was rushed to hospital and ended up in intensive care as she battled a serious bacterial infection.
The 64 year old was scheduled to start her tour in Vancouver, Canada, next month and complete the tour in January 2024, however, due to her recent health problems she has postponed her 84-date tour.
The US pop superstar developed a “serious bacterial infection” on Saturday but is expected to make a “full recovery”, her management said. Madonna's manager, Guy O'Seary, confirmed the news in an Instagram post where he said: "On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU.
"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.
"We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."
PageSix reported that Madonna was found on Saturday unresponsive before being rushed to a hospital in New York where she spent at least one night intubated. The outlet added that she is said to be alert and recovering.
Madonna shared a glimpse of her tour rehearsals just four days before she was hospitalised as she penned: "The calm before the storm".
In her tour announcement video, the pop sensation said: "I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for".
The long-awaited tour was expected to celebrate her successful career in the music industry and it was previously teased that the tour would take fans "on Madonna's artistic journey through four decades and pays respect to the city of New York where her career in music began."
The global superstar last took the stage at London's O2 Arena as part of her Rebel Heart tour in 2015. During that same year the singer also took a famous tumble down some stairs while performing at the BRIT Awards.
This isn't the first time that the Material Girl singer has cancelled a show as she was forced to cancel several shows during her Madame X tour due to a recurring hip and knee injury.
