Paramore‘s lead singer Hayley Williams has shared a solo single “Simmer,” her first project outside the band.
The track will be part of her upcoming debut solo album, Petals for Armor, scheduled to be released on May 8 via Atlantic.
An accompanying video, directed by Warren Fu, shows Williams coming across animal bones, a lonely house and a glowing orb, as she runs through the woods.
Paramore guitarist Taylor York produced “Simmer,” which he co-wrote with Williams, Joey Howard, Fu and creative director Lindsey Byrnes.
“I’m so ready and so incredibly humbled to get to share this project,” Williams said in a statement about her upcoming album. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience. Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing Petals for Armor. And I was able to get my hands a little dirtier than usual when it came to instrumentation.”
She continued, “I’m in a band with my favorite musicians, so I never really feel the need to step into a role as a player when it comes to Paramore records. This project, however, benefited from a little bit of musical naïveté and rawness and so I experimented quite a bit more.”
In an interview today with BBC Radio 1‘s Annie Mac, Williams confirmed a forthcoming tour behind Petals for Armor, saying, “We don’t have all the dates yet, but it is happening.”
Paramore released their last album, After Laughter, in 2017. That album marked the return of the band’s drummer Zac Farro.
Last year, Williams told ET she’s uncertain of the band’s future plans, noting, “I really don’t know what’s next for Paramore.”
