Phillip Schofield's younger one-time colleague and ex-partner is reportedly going to "have his say" as part of ITV's external investigation into the scandal.
After news broke that Phillip, 61, had had an affair with the former This Morning runner, network bosses have been quizzed by MPs over the handling of the situation. Now, the young man is set to be questioned about the relationship by barrister Jane Mulcahy KC, who is conducting the inquiry.
ITV's chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall told MPs last week they "were repeatedly told nothing was happening", and both men denied the affair "both formally and informally", with the younger employee, referred to as Person X, being questioned 12 times.
But the Daily Mail reports sources close to the man claim he wasn't actually asked about it and predict the upcoming inquiry will offer him the opportunity to give his side of the story.
One source said: "ITV have kept in touch with the man and there will be a very thorough investigation, where many people close to the situation will be asked questions.
"It will be his chance to have his say. It could most definitely lead to some difficult reading for ITV's bosses if it turns out that he says he wasn't asked about the relationship 12 times."
Ex This Morning presenter Phil has kept a relatively low profile in recent weeks but was seen in Cornwall on Monday, where he appeared looking relatively forlorn. He was spotted in a car park, where he sported a blue t-shirt and white linen shorts as the scorching UK heat continues.
Phillip, 61, held his phone in his hands, as well as his car keys and a vape. It's believed he was venturing out in celebration of his mum Pat's 87th birthday, with the mother and son being particularly close.
The one-time king of daytime television looked a little tanned, in stark contrast to his pale appearance during his explosive BBC interview after admitting to the affair. The ITV veteran has been blighted by controversy since he called it quits after 21 years of fronting the smash hit morning show.
Initially, reports of a "feud" with his co-host – and one time best friend – Holly Willoughby, 42, raged on before news of his affair with a younger male ITV employee broke. After the scandal came into the light, he went on to open up about his relationship and the former pals' fall-out in a heavily publicised, tell-all interview with the BBC's Amol Rajan.
The former ITV star said he "didn't tell anybody" about his relationship with his former This Morning colleague, confirming Holly "did not know" about it. In an interview with The Sun, the former Dancing on Ice presenter apologised to her for lying about the relationship, and concluded: "I've lost my best friend".
Mum-of-three Holly made her first on-screen appearance since the news broke on 5 June, kicking off her This Morning return with an emotional speech. Many famous faces have weighed in on the situation, keen to share their thoughts and perceptions.
Following Phillip's statement, an ITV Spokesperson told OK!: "We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.
"The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Philip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.
“We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”
