Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, 55, was left horrified when he saw a clip of historian David Starkey, 75, where he said slavery was “not a genocide” because of the survival of “so many damn blacks”. He made the offensive remarks in an episode of Darren Grimes’ YouTube show Reasoned, and has since been hounded online and criticised for being racist.

The interview, titled Dr David Starkey: Black Lives Matter Aims To Delegitimate British History, comes as the campaign has seen enormous traction around the world, with a new wave triggered by George Floyd’s murder by US police officers last month.

Piers shared the viral clip to his 7.6million Twitter followers and raged at Starkey’s comments.

“Disgusting racism by Starkey, shamefully endorsed by nodding dog @darrengrimes_,” he snapped.

In the clip, Starkey says: “Slavery was not genocide otherwise there wouldn’t be so many damn blacks in Africa or Britain would there? An awful lot of them survived.”

During the interview he also claimed that the global protests in honour of Black Lives Matter have been characterised by “violence” and “victimhood”.

This also isn’t the first time Starkey has been involved in a public race row.

In 2011, the BBC received nearly 700 complaints about his claims that “whites have become black”, during a Newsnight discussion about riots in the UK.

Express.co.uk reached out to David’s reps for comment.

Piers has never been one to hold his tongue when it comes to issues as important as this, even branding the President and friend Donald Trump “deluded” after his recent comments where he hoped coronavirus will just “disappear”.

On UK soil, Piers has had a busy week.

He has been embroiled in a bitter spat with his BBC rival Dan Walker, where the two went head-to-head after the GMB host slammed their interview with Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Government ministers are refusing to appear on GMB for reasons Piers believes are that they’re “too scared” to face him and his savage line of questioning.

After providing ITV viewers with a running commentary of BBC’s interview with Mr Hancock, Piers told Dan he “blew it” by not asking him tough enough questions, something Dan strongly refutes.

Shortly after, Dan shared his response to Piers’ outburst in view of his 662,100 followers.

“It is essential that politicians are allowed to speak. The idea (from some) that we, and others, don’t challenge ministers is completely untrue,” he snapped.

“Important to ask questions. Important to press. Important to let you listen. Thanks for watching #BBCBreakfast.

Piers was quick to fire back with a short and simple reply: “Mate, you blew it. Calm down.”

And as their bickering picked up traction, it didn’t stop there.

Dan hit back laughing: “Morning, good to see you were watching #BBCBreakfast today… again. Maybe, if you didn’t make every interview about you, you might get a few decent political guests.”

“You get them because they know they’ll get an [easy] ride as we sadly saw today…” Piers retorted, as the pair are often compared to each other for their interviewing style.

Dan has a reputation of being a “mild-mannered” presenter whereas his ITV nemesis is quite the opposite.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
