Queen extends olive branch as she invites Harry and Meghan to Balmoral

The Queen has offered her grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle an olive branch as she invited them to Balmoral over the summer.

The visit could see the Duke, 37, and Duchess, 40, spend time with her majesty, 96, at her Scottish estate during the summer when other senior royals are not around.

The Balmoral Estate is a favourite with Queen Elizabeth and she headed up to the Highlands on Thursday 21 July, where she plans to stay at Craigowan Lodge for the next 10 weeks.

A source told The Sun: “Staff have been told to expect the full list of royals including Harry, Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet.

"They are preparing for the Sussexes.”

Meghan, Harry and their kids were recently in the UK as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

Another insider told the publication: “Balmoral is the perfect place for them to spend a little bit of quality time with the Queen.

"They barely had 15 minutes with her at the jubilee.”

While a third source told The Sun on Sunday: “I would be stunned if they did turn up.”

OK! has contacted Buckingham Palace and representatives for Harry and Meghan for comment.

Harry and Meghan walked away from royal duties in 2020 but did come back to the UK with their children and reunite with the Royal Family during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The couple did however meet with the Queen earlier this year before they jetted to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games.

In April this year, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew from California to the UK together for the first time since stepping down from their roles as senior royals in 2020.

A spokesperson for the couple confirmed to OK! the couple visited the Queen before flying to the Netherlands for their appearance at the Invictus Games.

However, the couple kept tight-lipped on the details of the visit to Windsor, where they were reported to have met with Harry's dad Prince Charles for 15 minutes.

Harry gave a small insight into the meeting with his beloved grandmother, whoma royal expert said would have felt "great heartbreak" after the visit.

Harry said "it was great to see her" during the flying visit as he spoke to reporters at the Invictus Games.

He told the BBC: "She had plenty of messages for Team UK, which I have already passed on to most of them.

"So, it was great to see her. I'm sure she would love to be here if she could."

It was reported the meeting with Queen Elizabeth was "very cordial" as senior royal sources told The Sun the visit was "incredibly warm and good natured".
