Rod Stewart, Son Ordered To Appear In Court Over New Year’s Eve Altercation

Legendary singer Rod Stewart and his eldest son, Sean, have been ordered to appear in court over an alleged altercation with a hotel security guard during a New Year’s Eve party in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to court records, the Stewarts face a charge of simple battery and are scheduled to have an arraignment hearing on February 5 before Circuit Judge Ted Booras.

A Palm Beach police report says the altercation took place an hour before midnight at the upscale Breakers resort. The report cites the security guard as saying that a man, identified later as Sean Stewart, got about “nose to nose” distance from his face and that he put the back of his right hand on the man’s chest and told him he needed to back up to create some space.

Sean allegedly responded by shoving the security guard backward and then Rod punched the guard, hitting him in his left rib cage area.

Eye witness accounts and video surveillance showed the Stewarts to be the primary aggressors, police said.

The Stewarts admitted to their act and said they got agitated when the family was denied access to a private event being held in “a children’s area” of the complex and the security guard got into an argument with the family. The police report said Stewart apologized for his behavior.

Citing an unidentified source, People reported, “It was a brief misunderstanding and neither Rod nor Sean were detained. Apologies were exchanged and there were no injuries.”
