Rosie O’Donnell never considered returning to “The View” after her second departure from the show given the strained relationship she had with longtime co-host Whoopi Goldberg.
“No, I think we all agreed that the last time, that it was better for everyone,” O’Donnell, 58, said on “The Howard Stern Show.” “You know, Whoopi really didn’t like me.”
O’Donnell explained to the shock jock that she thought she would be joining an “ensemble” when she first started on the show.
Instead, she got off on the wrong foot with Goldberg, 64, after she signaled for commercial.
“She was upset…I threw to commercial because I didn’t know that she saw the countdown,” O’Donnell recalled. “Now, listen, she’s been there forever. Maybe that’s normal. I saw, and there was a pause, and I said, ‘We’ll be right back after this.’”
“That was the first day and then there was trouble from then on.”
Prior to her joining the show again in 2014 — after departing in 2007 — O’Donnell said they had a “come to Jesus” moment when she told Goldberg during a meeting at her house that she would only join the morning talk show if she wanted her to.
“I was thinking we were going to be like Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan,” O’Donnell said, referencing the now-retired NBA players. “Like that it was going to be the greatest thing of all time.”
O’Donnell left “The View” for the last time in 2015.
