On one of the hottest days of the year so far,Prince Charles was joined by Camilla as they took a trip to Cornwallwhere the weather was in the high 30s.
During the outingCamilla , 75, was spotted carrying a luxurious parasol whilePrince Charles , 73, sported a grey suit, shirt and tie and later donned a pair of sunglasses as the heat was rising.
The tradition of royal men dressing in formal clothing while out on public visits was one that was observed byPrince Georgeduring the 2022 Wimbledon final– which left many royal fans wondering how the youngster coped in a suit in the heat.
Speaking to OK!, fashion experts revealed just why royal males have to be impeccably dressed even in hot weather, why they dress in certain colours, and why they must wear vests in the summer.
Jo McLaren from N.Peal explained: “For casual days, men are expected to wear blazers with a collared shirt and chinos and a vest underneath, even in the warmest of climes, to absorb any sweat and therefore prevent this from showing on the subsequent layers, avoiding any staining, marks or transparency, acting as a cooling layer against the skin.”
She added that during formal events, men must adhere to military style: “These actions demonstrate the men's dedication to the military units of their nation. The norms must be respected at all times, though, not just during formal occasions.”
During yesterday’s outing Prince Charles was dressed in a grey suit – and experts believe this is for good reason.
A spokesperson for Karen Millan explained to us: “They often wear cooler fabrics, such as linen, that are naturally made and are far more breathable.
“They also wear cooler tones, such as stone greys and light blues that don't absorb as much sunlight and heat as navy or black clothes might. Prince William chose a grey suit with a blue shirt for one of his recent appearances at Wimbledon, allowing him to feel cooler, despite the hot temperatures.”
During the royal trip, the Prince of Wales and Camilla travelled to the fishing village to visit the Solomon Brown Hall, which Charles helped fund the creation of. It is named after the vessel list with its crew in the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster 41 years ago.
At the hall, they met the members of the Mousehole Archive Group and Cornwall Hugs Grenfell, before visiting nearby Newlyn Harbour and the fishing port. It was there where they met local fishermen to talk about sustainable fishing.
As well as this, they also took the time out to visit the fish market and a local fish restaurant, called Argoe, eager to try the local cuisine.
