Shirley Ballas ‘hasn’t yet been invited’ to do Strictly 2023
Head Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, 62, admits that she had to take a break from the spotlight after being left shaken by the amount of hate she received on social media during the last series.
Discussing the intense trolling she had received, Shirley said: “people don’t realise what affect they can have on somebody.”
She added that she was left feeling ‘furious” after she received “horrible” messages, telling Loose Women’s Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast: “Social media last year was second to none. It was pretty tough.”
After the Strictly tour ended, she admitted she took a break and jetted to America to “clear” her head for personal reasons.
While she spent time with her son, dancer Mark Ballas, she heavily contemplated returning to Strictly and even admitted turning down work.
After undergoing criticism across social media, she decided to repost an abusive message which then resulted in the person then being trolled.
In the end, she ended up speaking with the person on the phone because she “didn’t want him to suffer”.
Shirley told Kaye: “He said: ‘I am so sorry I wrote that, but you sent home someone who we really loved, and I just got on there and ranted’.” the judge then replied: “Wellmaybe you were one rant too many for me.”
Despite the tough year, Shirley says she will return to the show but revealed she will have someone running her social media accounts.

She concluded: “I will have someone else doing my social media and I won’t be privy to all that, because it really did affect me last year.”
It comes after The Mirror reported that all four Strictly judges have asked for a pay rise going into the 2023 series.
Shirley, who reportedly takes home a whopping £500,000, and the others are allegedly asking for a pay increase of 11 percent.
Although, according to sources, it is believed the BBC will turn down the request and offer a figure in the region of three and four percent.
