Stevie Nicks‘ songs lifted her to fame in her twenties. The Fleetwood Mac singer has a successful band, solo career, and an armful of awards to prove it. Though she is famous for her music, she said that it’s only part of what she wants to accomplish in her life. She explained that she doesn’t want her creative process to slow with age and shared what else she wants to get done.
In Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks and her songs found mainstream success
After joining a band out of high school, Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham attempted to navigate the music industry as a duo. After their first album was released to low sales, their label dropped them, and Nicks had to continue working odd jobs to support them. When the British band Fleetwood Mac asked them to join in 1975, their luck made a breakneck turn around.
In 1981, Nicks released her first solo album, Bella Donna, while still a member of Fleetwood Mac. She said that her solo career has allowed the band to remain successful after so many years.
“My solo career is truly the reason why Fleetwood Mac is still together because I get bored easily,” she told Rolling Stone. “That’s why every time I go to work on my solo career, I try to make it as different from Fleetwood Mac as I possibly can so that it really is two worlds.”
She said that she has many other plans for her career
Nicks has no plans to slow down. She explained that she even aims to expand into different creative arenas as she ages.
“I feel really sad that Prince’s journey didn’t continue until he was 95,” she said. “Just so devastated, but I think that for most of us, we’re all gonna live to be in our nineties.”
With this time, she wants to continue to nourish her creativity.
“So a lot of this creativity and all the things I want to do when this part of my life starts to go away a little bit, then I’ll be sitting down at an old typewriter that I’ll dig out of my storage unit in Phoenix and I’ll start writing stories,” she explained. “I’ll start working on movies. There’s so many things I want to do that this is just a part of it all. That’s all I can tell you.”
Stevie Nicks wants Harry Styles to act in her TV series
One project that Nicks has spoken about is a miniseries that explores the mythology behind her song “Rhiannon.” According to Nicks, she has already signed a deal with a studio to produce the series. She hopes that Harry Styles will star.
“I’m going, ‘Harry, you cannot age one day. You have to stay exactly as you are,’” she told the LA Times. “I’ve already sold him on it.”
This project gives just a hint into what Nicks has planned for the coming years. With this and all her other work, she proves time and time again why she has achieved icon status.
