Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar run a tight ship, especially when it comes to relationships. The Duggar children never “date,” they “court,” which Michelle Duggar describes as “dating with a purposeful mind set, [which is] really such a contrast from what we are used to seeing in our world.” Courting, for Jim Bob, also means “getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry. With dating, a couple will often pair off alone and that sometimes leads to a more physical relationship” (via People). So that means there are a whole list of things a Duggar can’t do before their wedding days.
The Duggar rules of courting and marriage
Strict rules mean that a Duggar who is courting (or is being courted) is hardly ever alone. People says chaperones are required, and only side hugs are allowed; but after the engagement, hand holding is allowed. The Duggars are allowed to kiss on their wedding day, and are free to let go and enjoy physical intimacy on their wedding night and after that. In fact, Jill Duggar Dillard has been surprisingly outspoken on sex after the wedding and beyond. In a June 2019 blog post, she encourages married couples to “have sex often,” recommending “3-4 times a week” as a starting point, and says, “Be open with your spouse about your desires and change things up to keep it exciting!”
Because of all these strict rules that apply before marriage, it’s not too surprising that the Duggar kids tend to tie the knot on the younger side. But how many of them have actually walked down the aisle?
Here are all the Duggar kids who have tied the knot
Since there are so many of them, you’ll be forgiven for forgetting how many Duggars there are (19!), and how many of those 19 kids have gotten hitched. Cheat Sheet reports that there are eight married Duggar kids. Josh and Anna Duggar were the first to tie the knot, and their marriage trouble played out while TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting was still on air (the show was cancelled after the scandal). Since then, seven more Duggars have walked down the aisle, five of whose weddings took place on the spin-off show, Counting On. The couples are John David Duggar and Abbie Burnett; Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard (who have since left Counting On); Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald; Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo; Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell; Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson; and Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth.
And with 11 kids to go, it may not be long before another wedding takes place.
