Betty White — iconic actress, comedian, beauty, and national treasure — dedicated her entire life to her career, and it’s the reason she never had children of her own. However, that doesn’t mean family wasn’t important to the former Golden Girls star. In fact, it’s just the opposite. For White, the third time was the charm when it came to finding a partner worth spending her life with, and he came with three children.
White met Allen Ludden when she made a guest appearance on the game show he hosted, Passwords. Soon after, the two reunited for the play Critic’s Choice, where they fell in love (via Closer Weekly). Ludden’s wife had passed away from cancer just two years before the host married White, leaving three children behind. Though White freely admits she never could have had the career she’s had and been a mother to her own children, being a stepmom was a role she could easily embrace. Of their time as a family, White said, “We all had a very good time together.”
Betty White's stepkids aren't in show business
It’s not uncommon for celebs to keep their kids away from the limelight, and it seems Betty White and her late husband did the same for his three children from his first marriage. David, Martha, and Sarah Ludden each went on to have remarkably normal lives, especially for people whose stepmom is one of the most recognizable stars on the planet.
According to Closer Weekly, David, now 71, is a history professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He’s the only one of White’s stepkids who yields substantial results in a Google search. Martha and Sarah have both flown so far under the radar that almost nothing is known about them. However, Closer Weekly did report that Martha has a law degree. Of Sarah, pretty much no information is publicly available.
Making matters more mysterious is that White herself doesn’t even speak much about her stepchildren. However, she did once tell Sandra Bullock, “how blessed [she] was to have those three stepchildren.”
While we may never know just exactly Betty White’s stepkids are doing these days, that’s OK because that’s clearly how they prefer it.
