Alison Hammond has recalled being ’embarrassed’ when she thought she heard her name being called out as the winner of the best presenter award at the NTAs.

The ITV icon was up for the award against comedy duo Ant and Dec, who have won the award an unbelievable 21 years in a row.

And for one shining moment, she thought she’d beaten their streak.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the 2022 Ethnicity Awards in partnership with Metro, the This Morning star spoke about the moment she lost out to the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! presenters.

‘I thought I heard my name, how embarrassing was that!’ she laughed.

‘I knew Ant and Dec were gonna [win],’ she said, adding: ‘I actually voted for Ant and Dec, I thought it would be really big-headed if I voted for myself. ‘

She went on to say she voted for them because she ‘absolutely loves’ them, labeling them ‘icons.’

‘I never really expected to win,’ Alison insisted.

‘But on the day everyone was like “you’re gonna win, you know. And then you’re like, “you know what, I actually might win!”

‘I never really dream that big, and just to be in the nomination was unbelievable. To be voted into that – I was the only woman there. It was lovely.’

Ant and Dec are obviously icons, but Alison may be trying to sweeten them up before her pal and fellow ITV presenter Charlene White gets going in the jungle, as she’s confirmed to be taking part in this year’s I’m A Celeb.

‘She is gonna be amazing. She’s such a wonderful woman,’ adding that they were nominated in the same category on Thursday’s award show.

‘They’re all gonna love her, she’s just an absolute treat,’ Alison went on, before adding: ‘I didn’t know she’d gone there!’

Britain’s biggest Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority red carpet extravaganza is taking place tonight, Thursday October 27, with some of the biggest names in showbusiness taking part and Judi Love hosting.

Both celebrities and organisations with a track record of promoting rights will be honoured at the event, with nominee including Sir Mo Farah, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Stormzy and Alison.
