Chris Martin Confirms Coldplay Will Release Three More Albums Before Retiring

Last December, Chris Martin announced that Coldplay will stop making music after 2025, seemingly signaling the British band’s retirement. Now, the band frontman has confirmed that between now and 2025, the band will be releasing three more albums, with one being a musical.

In a recent interview with NME Martin claimed that the band will stop recording new music after their 12th album. The band had only released their ninth studio album Music Of The Spheres back in October 2021. Martin said,

“We’re going to make 12 albums. Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too. I feel like because I know that challenge is finite, making this music doesn’t feel difficult, it feels like, ‘This is what we’re supposed to be doing.’”

Martin also recently spoke to Ellen Degeneresregarding the band’s decision to make three more Coldplay albums stating, it “feels right to us.” He says that it will not be the last of the band explains, “I think we’ll keep touring and we’ll always be together as a group of musicians and friends. But I think the story of our albums ends then.” He later confirmed to the talk show host that they are in fact interested in making a “movie musical” adding, “I think, over time, we’ve learned…we’re so lucky that we get to just follow what feels right. And that’s what we’ve decided to do. That’s why our music changes a bit: sometimes we lose people and we get other people in. But, really, it’s become so fun since we just had the privilege of following what feels correct. Everybody should do it.”

In other music news, Jorja Smith, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Jhené Aiko are headlining Sol Blume 2022.
