Gucci and Major League Baseball's Latest Collection Is a Home Run

It’s time to play ball with the new Gucci x Major League Baseball collection. Its first batting came for Fall/Winter 2018, which saw the then-Alessandro Michele-helmed label create a runway collection that fused New York tastes with Italian flair and Michele’s nostalgic irreverence. The theme is continued with the new collection, putting color, branding, and cuts before any obvious sporting tones.

Sure, collegiate jackets, track pants and New Era caps do make the cut, but that’s not the be-all-and-end-all of this collaboration. Instead, we find standouts like the Gucci vest, cut in a boxy white classic fit with branding working its way around the middle. A cut-off-sleeve denim jacket has been embroidered with dozens of team emblems and monikers, looking like a Gucci-fied take on a die-hard MLB fan’s uniform, while more logos adorn the camp collar bowling shirt alongside smatterings of Gucci’s own iconography.

But in true Gucci style, there’s a lot of subtlety to the collection too. A quaint jacket comes in a sophisticated palette of cream and black, while sporting a NY logo and black-gold “GG” buttons. Likewise, a chunky ribbed knit cardigan is served in pink but doesn’t scream MLB, and there’s even a pair of slacks and a complementing button-down shirt for true off-duty style moments.

Rounding out the drop is a multicolored “GG” necklace, gold wire-rim frames and a pair of sporty sunglasses, a pair of Gucci Basket sneakers informed by the Houston Astros, an emblematic New York Yankees-informed loafer, and some socks.
