There are a few key components to any great Thanksgiving: family, food, and lots of giving thanks. Beyond that, it’s up to you — and as these celebrity Thanksgiving plans show, there are plenty of exciting locales and traditions to make it your best Turkey Day yet. Whether you’re opting for snowy hills or sunny beaches, it’s all about what this holiday means to you.
So, how do the stars get into the Thanksgiving spirit? Those that aren’t entertaining us in the Macy’s Day Parade tend to celebrate, well, just like us. That means turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie galore — plus gathering together extended family to nurse your collective food comas.
Of course, some celebs do have a non-traditional approach to Thanksgiving traditions — and other stars like Angelina Jolie, Cher, and Jon Stewart choose not to celebrate at all. That’s why we like to spend Thanksgiving focusing on the here and now: what we’re grateful for, and who we’re grateful to share it with. Read on for a look at how these stars are spending Thanksgiving Day.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend
The Teigen-Legend family likes to migrate to warmer weather for this November holiday. They’ll be taking a trip to Palm Springs, where Legend says their holiday is a “family affair.” Apparently, 3-year-old daughter Luna “begs” to help with the cooking — but Teigen and Legend have it covered. “We’re like, ‘we got this,’” Legend jokes of their approach to the Thanksgiving feast.
Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton
These two lovebirds will be celebrating with their annual Thanksgiving tradition: bringing their families together in Oklahoma, by Lake Texoma. “We all fly out to Oklahoma, like 30 of us,” Stefani told Entertainment Tonight. “Blake has this bed and breakfast hotel that we all stay at, and it’s just pretty incredible. We have fun, we all cook together, it’s fun.”
Kelly Clarkson
Voice coach Kelly Clarkson has some ambitious Thanksgiving plans: She’ll be heading to her ranch in Montana and getting in some cold-weather sports while she’s at it. “I didn’t grow up in a city, I grew up in the countryside. So it’s nice…I like the escape of getting out,” Clarkson told Entertainment Tonight. “And it’s snowing, so we’re gonna go snowmobiling and all that stuff.”
Meghan Markle & Prince Harry
While we briefly hoped that Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle would drag her new beau back to the States for the American holiday, it seems they’ll be staying on their side of the pond for now. Access reports that Meghan and Prince Harry will be spending the holiday in London along with Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland, who will help “bring a taste of the American tradition.” We also suspect their Thanksgiving will involve roast chicken and volunteering at a local soup kitchen.
