Ice-T has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The gangsta rap pioneer and actor received the star in a ceremony a day after his 65th birthday, where he was joined by fellow rapper Chuck D and his Law & Order: SVU co-star Mariska Hargitay and series creator Dick Wolf. In his speech, he also gave a special mention to Ice Cube for co-creating gangsta rap, crediting him for giving the genre a name.
Speaking to Variety, Ice-T revealed that he would have never believed it if someone told him at the beginning of his career that he would receive a star. “I would have told you that was impossible,” he said. “When I started making records, I didn’t come into the music business thinking I would be a star. I was just seeing if I could get a fan base. I didn’t want to be the best rapper. I just wanted to be mentioned among the greats: LL Cool J, Run-DMC. Getting any ‘star’ was way out of reach.”
Elsewhere in music, Travis Scott confirmed that Utopia will drop after the release of several Cactus Jack projects.
