Jacob & Co Honors Bugatti Legend With $250,000 USD Twin Retrograde Chronograph

Jacob & Co. is commemorating the man responsible for some of the most famous cars its automotive partner Bugatti has ever created.

The 46mm Jacob & Co Jean Bugatti, which the brand describes as its “most demanding watchmaking project ever” features a high frequency, double retrograde chronograph, peripheral hands and a pair of twin 60-second flying tourbillons, while taking inspiration from a 1930’s Bugatti roadster grille.

Jean Bugatti succeeded his father and Bugatti founder, Ettore, and, as well as having a passion for racing, he inherited his family’s creative and artistic flair, designing the type 50 series, the Type 41 Royale and the legendary Type 57SC Atlantic.

Two blued, centrally mounted hands cover chronograph duties, with the shorter indicating single seconds while the longer indicates tens of seconds, both against retrograde scales. The 60-second limit of the twin retrograde scale is extended by a jumping digital 30-minute counter of sapphire crystal, located between the tourbillons.

The two flying tourbillons sit at the five and seven o’clock position, underneath smoked sapphire crystal panels with each bearing Bugatti’s “EB” logo. Timekeeping duties are assigned to two red peripheral pointers indicating hours and minutes, which overlap when required.

The 470-component Jacob & Co Calibre JCFM09 features an additional barrel and balance wheel to keep timekeeping and chronograph operations separate. The timekeeping balance runs at 3Hz while the chronograph runs at 5Hz.

The Jean Bugatti is available in either 18K white gold with a cream dial or 18K rose gold with a blue dial, via Jacob & Co., with both versions limited to 57 pieces each and priced $250,000 USD.
