Hideo Kojima, the original creator of the Metal Gear gaming franchise, isn’t involved in the making of the new Metal Gear Solid. The forthcoming game, entitled Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater was released back in 2004 by Japanese company Konami and is currently being remade for PlayStation.
Kojima developed the game and would go on to direct most of the future installments in the long-running Metal Gear franchise. In 2015, Kojima split from Konami and joined forces with Sony to launch his own studio, Kojima Productions.
Yoji Shinkawa, the Japanese artist behind Metal Gear’s illustrations, followed Kojima and now serves as the art director of Kojima Productions.
“They are not involved,” a spokesperson for Konami told IGN in response to a question about if Kojima and Shinkawa are involved in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.
“However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world.”
Konami went on to say that development on the remake would be handled by in-house developers who have worked on the production of past Metal Gear titles.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater hasn’t received a release date just yet, so it’s likely development is still underway.
In other gaming news, a John Wick game is currently in development.
