Meta has introduced a new set of artificial intelligence (AI) models it’s calling “Llama 2,” which stands for “large language model Meta AI” and is designed to enhance chatbot applications like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing Chat.
This successor to its original Llama is meant to be more widely accessible, for both researchers and commercial users – as opposed to the previous model, which was only available by request.
Other benefits that come along with the new model include fine-tuning capabilities for platforms like Amazon Web Services, Azure and Hugging Face, a company that develops tools for building machine learning-powered applications.
Releasing in two versions, Llama 2 and Llama 2-Chat, the last of the two is likely to be used the most by commercial users, as it provides comparable services to GPT4 and is specifically fine-tuned for two-way conversations.
In related tech news, Apple is reportedly gearing up to take on ChatGPT with its own AI chatbot.
