It’s still a mystery as to why Mortal Kombat 1 is even on the Switch but it turns out it looks just about as good as you would’ve imagined.
Without naming any names, recent events have made it very clear what a publisher refusing to send out review copies ahead of time usually means. So the fact that the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 has turned out to be really bad is not going to be a surprise to anyone.
On Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, the game is very good but the fact that there is a Switch version at all is baffling, considering the game clearly requires a more powerful console and the series has no special significance to Nintendo hardware – that it would need to be on the Switch at all costs.
Review copies of the next gen versions were made available before the early access launch but not the Switch edition, which still has zero reviews on Metacritic. Fans, however, have been making it very clear just how bad the port is.
The really odd thing about the Switch version is that it does run at 60fps, so the gameplay is just as smooth as the other versions.
However, in order to get the game running at that frame rate the graphics have had to be greatly simplified, with no apparent facial animation.
