For CHANEL‘s 2023 eyewear campaign, the embodiment of ’70s chic runs free with Nile Rodgers appearing as the face of this year’s spectacle offering. Starring alongside the Swiss model Vivienne Rohner and the South Korean model HyunJi Shin, we find the three strike a pose behind Karim Sadli’s lens, oozing seventies swagger in “homage to a cosmopolitan artistic scene, and to the queens and kings of the night encountered at disco parties and clubs.”
Rodgers’ specs in question are the CHANEL Shield Sunglasses; an acetate pair available in six colorways that all put the spotlight on a thick black frame and a full-width lens and “CC” emblems on either side of the arm.
Elsewhere, we find sunglasses and opticals inspired by typical CHANEL House cues. For example, the Rectangle Sunglasses see its acetate arms quilted to emulate its classic bags and leather goods, while Round Sunglasses are more than just a ’70s throwback, with its arms adorned with a glasses chain made from pearls.
Rounding out the list of House references are a pair of slight-cat-eye sunglasses sporting tweed-trimmed arms, decorated with an embroidered “CC” logo on the sides.
