In its latest limited edition offering, Nixon, the American watchmaker and accessories brand, is paying its respects to the late and great Tupac Shakur.
It shared that the Nixon x 2PAC collection, which consists of five different watches, was designed to pay homage to his legacy through a “fusion of artistry and elegance.”
Watches in the collection include the 2PAC Time Teller available in both black and gold, the 2PAC Corporal, the 2PAC 51-30 and the 2PAC Sentry Stainless Steel.
In order of ascending retail price, we start off with the 2PAC Time Teller, which sees a classic design with accents of “rebellion,” most apparent in the gold example which features journal writings on the dial and a rose at the center. Its counterpart is expressed in a more subtle manner, dressed in all black, featuring a bandana motif at the dial framed by a braided gold chain-like bezel. Both watches share the same retail price of $175 USD.
Next up is the 2PAC Corporal, priced at $275 USD which was created to reflect “boldness and ambition,” achieved through a two-tone gold on gold design. The watch features a highly detailed dial with a Celtic cross featuring “2PAC” lettering at the center of it. Other details include a rose embellishment on the seconds hand and a custom-etched bezel.
One of the more subtle pieces in the collection is the 2PAC Sentry Stainless Steel, priced at $325 USD. This silver-on-gold two-tone watch features a day date window and a clean black dial with a printed Celtic cross. The watch also features “2PAC” lettering laid across the face vertically.
Last but not least is the 2PAC 51-30, priced at $600 USD, Nixon shared that “The original OG oversized watch reminds us of what can be accomplished with unwavering determination.” It features three gold roses on a custom black dial, raised Roman numerals and various 2PAC branded elements throughout. Of the lot, it is definitely the show stopper, with “Long Live The Rose” printed in gold at the lower portion of the dial, just above the gold date window.
“We approached this project differently from other collaborations,” shared Joanne Sessler, Nixon’s VP of Product, adding that the project was “Exciting creatively, and a daunting responsibility to best honor his legacy. Through photos, writings, and of course, his music, we visually designed Tupac’s story through the medium of watches. We were fortunate to attend the LA exhibit of Wake Me When I’m Free, where we witnessed the raw creativity of his journals, the love for his mother, joys and struggles and message to the world.”
