The cast of Oppenheimer are going against the vibe of the devastating film as they look absolutely buzzing at a photocall in London.
Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon and more hit the capital on Wednesday ahead of the film’s release on July 21.
Oppenheimer explores the true story of J Robert Oppenheimer, who helped develop the world’s first nuclear weapons, leading to the creation of the atomic bomb which killed around 200,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The biographic movie is, naturally, absolutely devastating, and has been described as somewhere between a horror and a thriller – but after going through what must have been a difficult and dark time filming, the cast are now ready to relax.
At a photocall this week, Irish actor Cillian was positively beaming as he posed between Florence and Emily, each playfully grinning and messing about in front of the cameras.
Fans had gathered in Trafalgar Square to catch a glimpse of the star-studded cast, and weren’t left disappointed as the celebrities larked about, Flo and Emily hugging tightly and laughing together.
Former Marvel star Robert equally played up for the cameras, confidently pointing a finger directly at the lens, and even doing what looked like karate moves for the gathered fans.
He was also seen sharing a hug with co-star Matt, who went on to embrace Florence tightly with a giant smile on his face.
The stars dressed fairly casually for the event, with Cillian in a black cardigan and trousers with a white t-shirt underneath, while Emily upped the ante with a glittering rose-gold suit.
Florence, meanwhile, gave a rose-gold tint to her gorgeous new short haircut, matching it with a bright blue denim-style playsuit.
RDJ showcased his karate moves in a pale blue suit and white t-shirt, along with blue-tinted sunglasses, while Matt kept it business casual in a shirt and trousers.
Oppenheimer is famously going against Barbie in a box office battle that has already become a solid pop culture moment among fans, with both set to be released into cinemas on the same day.
Critics who have already seen an early showing of the devastating film have heaped praise on the Christopher Nolan film, with Total Film saying their reporter was ‘stunned’ by the flick.
The Telegraph labeled it a ‘total knockout’ which left their critic ‘sobbing’ through the end credits, while others dubbed it a ‘masterpiece’ and ‘spectacular achievement’.
As for which movie – Barbie or Oppenheimer – fans should opt for first, lead man Cillian advised people to ‘go see both, on the same day.’
‘If they are good films, then that’s cinema’s gain,’ he pointed out Spanish publication La Vanguardia.
Oppenheimer hits UK cinemas on Friday, July 21.
