‘Party animal’ bridesmaid ‘ruins’ friend’s wedding with key sentence in speech

Bridesmaids play a huge role in weddings, helping the bride with the organisation and calming any last minute nerves when the big day finally arrives.

Most women are forever grateful for the support, advice and help the offer – but that wasn't the case for one bride who claims her oldest friend ruined her celebrations.

The bride had asked her three best friends to be her bridesmaids two years ahead of her wedding and they were a big help when it came to the arrangements.

But she claims one of them made everything very, very difficult on the wedding morning by making a special announcement of her own.

Whilst it's basically tradition to start the celebrations early on the morning of the wedding with glasses of bubbly,  the bride noticed something was wrong when Laura – "the biggest party animal" of the group – turned down the alcohol.

When the group questioned her, she came clean that she was pregnant.

The bride said: "Of course I was happy for her but obviously the focus was then on Laura and her pregnancy and not us getting ready for my wedding, something I had been planning for two years."

Despite it not being the best start to the day, the bride brushed the announcement aside.

She had made arrangements with the photographer for the her and her three bridesmaids to all stand together holding their bouquets in front of them, but it seemed that Laura had a better plan.

Instead of holding her bouquet, she stood cradling her "bump" – which the bride said wasn't noticeable at just 12 weeks – and told the photographer: "Oh it’s ok I’d prefer to stand like this”.

With the bride's plan out the window, the photos ended up looking "weird".

When it was time for the speeches, she'd expected Laura to say a few nice words of congratulations – but she decided to share her happy news with a few more people.

Although she didn't make the entire speech about herself, she ended with: "And I’m so excited to announce that as Bride’s best friend, I’d like her to be an honorary aunt to my baby who is due summer 2020!"

And being one of the bride's oldest and dearest friends, the entire wedding party was overjoyed at the news.

In nearly any other situation, sharing such an exciting announcement wouldn't have been an issue, but the happy couple's wedding had most definitely turned into a pregnancy reveal.

The bride said: "I felt so upset on my wedding day and haven’t really spoke to Laura much since. She has since sent me a text saying I’m acting like a spoiled brat and the world doesn’t revolve around me."

The woman posted anonymously on Reddit asking fellow users whether she was being a bad friend by distancing herself after the disaster.

One user replied: "At first it seemed innocuous enough because you asked about her not drinking, but she spent the rest of the day deliberately drawing attention to her pregnancy and that’s rude af. You have every right to be upset."

Another agreed: "Talk about stealing the spotlight."

And a third said: "That takes some nerve to disregard the bride’s wishes over something this minor. She might as well have just asked her fiancé to propose to her during the toast. It would have been just as tacky."

A couple of other users admitted that they too had been keeping their pregnancies a secret, but had decided to wait till after the wedding to tell anyone.

One said: "I found out I was pregnant a week after my BIL's wife had announced. It was her first pregnancy. I kept my mouth shut until I hit the 2nd trimester so she could have all the focus."
