Last year food lovers were divided after a man admitted to putting watermelon on his pizza.
This year it's a bizarre addition to a popular breakfast food that seems to be causing controversy.
And it's all thanks to Gene Simmons.
The KISS musician took to Twitter at the start of 2020 to reveal that he likes to add ice cubes to his cereal.
He wrote: "Anyone else put ice cubes in their cereal?"
Alongside this he shared two photos of his culinary creation, which consisted of a mixture of Shredded Wheat and Oreo O's cereal, topped with milk and several ice cubes.
His post quickly went viral, being liked by more than 32,000 people and garnering over 6,000 retweets.
Thousands also replied to the post, with many voicing concerns and questions about the peculiar food combination.
One person said: "Y'know…if you froze milk in ice cube trays, and put iced MILK cubes in your cereal, I could see this being a decent idea. But normal ice cubes? S**t no man, watery milk does no one any good."
Another commented: "You have ruined 2020."
"Milk is refrigerated for a reason you monster," added a third.
Even Gene's son, Nick Simmons, was unimpressed by his father's antics, saying: "30 years. 30 years watching him do this. This is my life."
But not everyone was horrified and a number of people also confessed to adding ice cubes to their own cereal on a regular basis.
A man named Scott replied to a comment claiming no one else does this, writing: "I'm an actual person and I've been doing it for 35 years."
A second person tweeted: "If putting ice cubes in cereal is wrong, I don’t want to be right."
Someone else said: "Okay people think I’m crazy but one ice cube with cereal and that crisp cold milk and it’s bomb hear me out."
Gene later defended his unusual breakfast choices and reminded people that there were bigger things in the world to worry about than his eating habits.
Speaking to TMZ, the 70-year-old said: "I was f**king having cereal for breakfast and my daughter, she asked me, 'Dad, what are you doing?'
"I said, 'What am I doing? I am having goddamn cereal. That's what I'm doing.' 'But, dad, you're putting ice cubes in the cereal.' [I said], 'Well, yeah, who wants lukewarm milk with your cereal?'"
In response to the backlash over his controversial breakfast, he added: "That makes a lot of sense, 'cause Kim Jong Un and the rest of the world — and Mr. Putin and all the rest – that's not controversy. What I had for breakfast – whether there's ice in it or not – is earth-shaking."
