It looks like Prince Andrew defeated King Charles III in their battle over Royal Lodge. The ongoing real estate feud has reportedly reached a conclusion with the disgraced family member standing his ground by refusing to leave his beloved residence for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former home, Frogmore Cottage.

The standoff began earlier this year when Charles asked his younger brother to move out of the 30-room estate in order to start renovations. According to the Mirror, Royal Lodge “is in need of much more urgent repair,” but the royal family was unsure where Andrew was going to get the funds to transform the home. After being exiled from public life, thanks to his uncomfortable association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, he hasn’t had a consistent income.

Now, a source is telling the British media outlet that Andrew has been given a “stay of execution” — he won the standoff with his brother. While he currently doesn’t have the over $2.4 million that is reportedly needed to upgrade the mansion, he has made a $242,000 “interim payment” to get the roof back up to code. “Andrew’s stance has paid off. He has refused all attempts by the King to leave his home, dig his heels and the King has relented and granted a stay of execution,” a source explained. “It seems the King just wants to move on for the time being which might be a good idea for everyone.” The big question is, where is Andrew’s money going to come from?

Andrew’s residential win shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans after seeing some of the other royals show a softer side to their exiled family member. The sight of Prince William driving his uncle to church at Balmoral during their summer holiday was the first sign that the attitude toward Andrew was changing. The Duke of York is probably trying to inch his way closer to a more formal return, but that’s going to be a very hard sell to the public.
