Shane MacGowan’s wife has shared an update amid her husband’s health struggles.
The Pogues singer, 65, has suffered from a number of health issues over recent months and was hospitalised over Christmas and the New Year with the rare brain condition encephalitis.
Encephalitis is a life-threatening condition that causes the brain to swell and has the potential to cause loss of movement and difficulty with speech, with Shane being rushed for urgent treatment at the time.
He was then admitted to intensive care in June this year, although the reason remains unknown.
Thankfully, Shane has now been moved to a hospital ward and is on the road to recovery.
Sharing the news with fans, his wife Victoria Mary Clarke, 57 – who Shane married in 2018 – posted a very sweet selfie.
In the snap, Shane could be seen leaning into his beloved wife in his hospital bed.
The couple both appeared in high spirits and wore big smiles, with Shane’s gold tooth on full display.
Victoria wrote on Twitter: ‘I just wanted to thank everyone who is sending love and prayers for @ShaneMacGowan we really appreciate it and bless all of you and anyone anywhere who is having health challenges! @poguesofficial.’
In the replies, fans were keen to send their well wishes.
‘Sending love and prayers to you both. Wishing Shane a speedy recovery’, one wrote.
Another wrote: ‘Sending you love and prayers Shane, such an idol of mine’.
Victoria’s update comes after she shared an Instagram post last month about her husband’s health woes.
She penned in a caption: ‘There has been a lot of turbulence in my life recently and it’s been very emotional and also scary. But this past few days I have noticed that even though there’s a LOT of fear there is also a huge amount of love and support and incredible blessings.
‘I think that our minds can be VERY resistant to change and to having our lives shaken up and rearranged and we need to be very gentle and patient with ourselves…
‘It’s a challenge to stay present with your feelings. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me and @shanemacgowanofficial.’
Fans have been kept in the loop with all the highs and lows, including when Shane received a visit from one very special star.
In what is bound to have made Shane’s day, the one and only Bruce Springsteen paid him a visit back in May, greeting the Fairytale Of New York hitmaker with a big hug at his home.
Victoria captured the precious moment on camera, with Shane looking up at The Boss in awe.
She tweeted: ‘What an amazing honour and a beautiful experience to get a visit from The Boss!!!
‘Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius!’
