The year is 2016. adidas is picking up momentum off the back of the UltraBOOST and NMD and with a Consortium collection that featured highly-anticipated UltraBOOSTs from brands such as Wood Wood, solebox and Hypebeast. Before the collection’s launch, sneakerheads were found cutting the cages off of UltraBOOSTs — an approach that would then find itself included as an official design for the first time. With solebox, a taupe uncaged colorway with orange-red accents and suede detailing had people across the world fighting for pairs. Now, it continues its partnership with the Three Stripes as the two German companies pay homage to 2016’s work with new UltraBOOST 1.0 and Ultra 4D colorways.
Both looks revisit the subtle gray from ‘16, this time favoring monochromatic finishes. Similar to the preceding pair, the solebox logo replaces the UltraBOOST and Ultra 4D text found at each respective shoe’s heel while both carry a sock-like Primeknit upper. Looking closer at the UltraBOOST 1.0, a cage appears with various bits of it removed to mimic the finish of concrete. As for the Ultra 4D, it favors an uncaged approach with a transparent branding panel at the heel. Lastly, both outsoles have a glow-in-the-dark finish to illuminate each step.
For those interested in grabbing either pair of shoes, the solebox x adidas Ultra 4D and UltraBOOST 1.0 will be presented at the brand’s exclusive vernissage event on March 16 at Lobe Block in Berlin where all attendees can enjoy exclusive pre-access to the Ultra 4D. Following this, the collaborative Ultra 4D will launch on March 17 via solebox and the UltraBOOST 1.0 will land on shelves March 31 via solebox as well.
