Stuart Broad 'in talks' for major career twist after shock cricket exit

Stuart Broad recently announced his retirement from cricket, and the sportsman has reportedly already been eyed up by Strictly Come Dancing.

The 37-year-old confirmed his decision to retire from the sport just last week, following the end of day three of the fifth Ashes Test between England and Australia.

After 16 years he’s hung up his cricket bat, but rather than enjoy taking naps and taking full advantage of weekday happy hours (which is probably what we’d do if we retired at 37), Stuart may have to warm up his hips.

This is because he has allegedly been approached to take part in the BBC’s biggest Saturday night show.

‘Stuart is very much the hero of the hour and a perfect choice to fill the coveted sports star slot,’ shared a TV insider.

They added to The Sun: ’It is a last-minute approach, but the BBC think he’s worth trying to get him on board because he would be hugely popular with viewers.’

If BBC’s pitching is as good as Stuart’s is on the field, and they manage to convince him then it is said there will be some ‘cricket-themed dances’. We can see it now – a romantic waltz with bat-ography.

They’ll also be keen to include a bandana in his costumes, as it’s his trademark accesory. We imagine the Strictly one will have a few more sequins.

Stuart will be able to get plenty of pointers at home from fiancée Mollie King, who competed in the series in 2017.

Partnered with AJ Pritchard, Mollie, 36, just missed out on a place in the finals and finished in fifth place.

Strictly are likely hoping that Stuart and Mollie can secure Saturday night babysitters for their eight-month-old daughter Annabella, as the source added: ‘Having Mollie supporting him in the audience week after week would be a huge bonus.’

Speaking about his exit from cricket, Stuart told Sky Sports Cricket: ‘I’m loving cricket as much as I ever have, it’s been a wonderful series to be a part of and I’ve always wanted to finish at the top.

‘This series feels like it has been the most wonderful and entertaining to be a part of.’

The next series of Strictly could be equally as wonderful and entertaining…

Metro contacted BBC, who said: ‘We do not comment on speculation’.
