London-based imprint Studio Nicholson has become synonymous with elevated staples that speak for themselves. The simplistic co-ed brand is expanding its horizons, opening the doors to its first international location on the busy streets of Aoyama in Tokyo, Japan.
The store is an open-plan space for customers to shop freely and takes the Studio Nicholson experience outside of London for the first time. Creative Director Nick Wakeman mirrors her brand’s practical identity through a concrete facade and floor-to-ceiling windows. Soft oak fixtures are designed in delicate Earth tones, keeping details sleek and simple.
Studio Nicholson collaborated with Danish designers Carl Hansen & Son to create luxurious leather and wood furniture with a vintage feel. The store will house Studio Nicholson’s seasonal menswear and womenswear collections while bringing its footwear and accessories to international audiences.
Speaking on the opening, Nick Wakeman says:
“I first came to a perfectly ordered Tokyo back in 1999. Arriving from a grimy nineties London, I found everything in Japan was impeccable, well ordered and clean — the tonal beiges, browns and creams and the light in Japan, I fell in love with it. Tokyo has informed all my design taste levels over the past two decades. This store opening is the brand coming home.”
