Revealed back in March, Dyson‘s unexpected Dyson Zone™ headphones now have an official release date. Set to be priced at $949 USD, the innovation from the company known for its top-of-the-line fans and vacuums serves as its first wearable device that doubles as an air purifier and high-fidelity headphones.
Offered in “Ultra Blue/Prussian Blue” and “Prussian Blue/Bright Copper” (available only through Dyson) colorways, the unique device features vizor outfitted with electrostatic filters that provide up to 12 months of use before they need to be replaced. The filters utilize a dual-layer design with potassium-enriched carbon to capture acidic gasses like nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone. Dyson claims that filters are capable of blocking 99 percent of particles, up to a size of 0.1 microns.
Meanwhile, the headphone capability of the Dyson Zone™ is capable of up to 38 decibels of noise cancellation and features 40-millimeter neodymium drivers for premium sound quality. Through the MyDyson app, users can switch between three audio equalization modes – Dyson EQ, Bass Boost, and Neutral. The headphones also support Bluetooth 5.0, along with SBC, AAC, and LHDC audio codecs.
As for battery life, the 2,600mAh built-in battery provides 50 hours of listening time on a full charge (three hours via USB-C). When using the air purification visor on the Low setting, the battery is capable of four hours of use, with times dropping to 2.5 and 1.5 hours when using the Mid and High settings.
The Dyson Zone™ headphones come complete with a second electrostatic carbon filter, carrying pouch, vizor sleeve, cleaning brush, and inflight adapter kit.
Priced at $949 USD, the Dyson Zone™ headphones will be available for pre-order by appointment only in the United States in March. A wider release in-store at Dyson Demo stores and on Dyson’s website will follow shortly after.
