An unopened first-generation Apple iPhone has sold for $39,339.60 USD at auction.
This brand new 8GB smartphone was released in 2007, is factory sealed and billed as “in exceptional condition.” LCG Auctions shared that the item’s surface and edges are “[v]irtually flawless” with the proper labels, and are all completely original without aftermarket stickers or universal product code (UPC) labels. The iPhone’s starting bid opened at $2,500 USD and Gizmodo reported that the last-minute bids pushed the item’s price higher as the auction closed.
