The homeware arm of fashion brand Zara has announced a new, ongoing collaboration with Vincent Van Duysen, and has revealed the the first collection set to go on sale on June 30.
For the first drop, Belgian architect Van Duysen has drawn on 30 years-worth of expertise, and looked to the forms and palettes that have become typical of his aesthetic over the course of his career. The outcome is named “Zara Home + by Vincent Van Duysen”, and includes pieces to furnish an entire living room.
Across armchairs, stools, sofas, tables, and textiles – the choice of material has been of the utmost importance. Tactility is created through fabrics and woods, while forms are intended to remain timeless – rendering them a staple item for years to come. The colour pallette is calm, and shows the collection’s function of contributing to the room, not dominating it.
“It feels like a home coming the dimensions – the sensorial aspects, the look and feel all reflect my work,” Van Duysen explained. “My DNA merges with Zara Home.”
All materials have been selected to stand the test of time. Solid oak, ash, Campaspero limestone, and leather have been sourced as raw materials, and the carpets have been knotted in India. “It’s a clear antidote to the one-time-use culture embraced for so long. Instead, the series focuses on pieces that are able to imbue any space typology with a Zen-like sense of calm,” the brand added.
The collection will drop twice a year and forms part of an ongoing collaboration, between the brand and architect. The first batch is available from June 30, and will see Van Duysen’s unmistakeable eye applied to a series of more affordable products.
In other design news, London design brand SCP has revealed a new collection that takes its design cues from camping, Japanese joinery and La-Z-Boy’s.
