Zooey Deschanel has called it quits with her husband Jacob Pechenik after four years of marriage.
The New Girl actress tied the knot with Jacob in secret in 2015, shortly before they welcomed their first child, Elsie Otter, into the world.
They became parents to their second child, a son named Charlie Wolf, in 2017.
Zooey and Jacob told E! News in a joint statement: ‘After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners.
‘We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.’
The couple got engaged in 2015 after Jacob proposed on Zooey’s birthday on January 17, with the pair celebrating the big day on Catalina Island.
Zooey revealed she was engaged and pregnant in January, gushing: ‘Jacob and I are over the moon. We are so excited to meet our little one.’
She had been dating the film producer since August 2014 after meeting on the set of a movie.
The actress recently revealed her little girl is still obsessed with Frozen’s Elsa and Anna, even though she keeps the tot away from screens.
‘My three-year-old loves Frozen. I think that’s a milestone,’ Zooey joked to PEOPLE when asked if either of her kids had hit any recent milestones.
‘She’s really not allowed to have screen time. She’s seen it once or twice on a plane but she just sings the songs all the time,’ she added.
Zooey went on: ‘We listen to the songs all the time, we dress up in the costumes. It’s a daily thing.’
With one child already called Charlie Wolf, fans were thrilled when Zooey revealed that her daughter’s unconventional middle name was inspired by an animal.
‘It’s Otter,’ the actress revealed. ‘Like the animal.’
‘Sea Otter,’ her husband Jacob Pechenik added, just in case we hadn’t quite got it.
