Is Armie Hammer’s own tale of abuse enough to win back Hollywood? As actor FINALLY breaks his silence on rape and cannibalism claims, FEMAIL lays bare the shocking scandals that sunk his career – from gory, ‘abusive’ texts to allegations he BRANDED women
- Hammer, 36, was accused of sexual assault and cannibalism by multiple women
- One of his exes even claimed he raped her, but chargers were never brought
- It’s been rumored that Hammer is trying to break back into the movie industry
When Armie Hammer starred in the popular coming-of-age romantic drama Call Me By Your Name in 2017, it quickly launched him into mega stardom.
Suddenly, directors were fighting to get him in their movies, and it seemed as though this was just the beginning of what would be a successful, decades-long acting career.
But as fast as Hammer, now 36, became Hollywood’s heartthrob, his newfound popularity was ripped away from him after he was accused of sexual assault and cannibalism by multiple women.
The once-beloved movie star was quickly shunned from Hollywood – he was kicked out of the movies and shows that he had been cast in and was even dropped by his own publicist – forcing him to ultimately flee California to live a much-quieter life in the Cayman Islands.
He then got a new job as a timeshare salesman for a resort – certainly a vast difference from the once-glamorous life he lead as Hollywood’s golden boy.

But as fast as Hammer (seen in 2019), 36, became Hollywood’s heartthrob, his newfound popularity was ripped away from him after he was accused of rape and cannibalism
The actor first rose in popularity in 2010, when he starred in The Social Network alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake.
After that, he landed parts in a few other big movies – like Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar (which also starred Leonardo DiCaprio), Mirror Mirror (alongside Julia Roberts and Lily Collins), and the Johnny Depp-led Disney flick The Lone Ranger – but his major breakthrough came in 2017, when he acted in Call me By Your Name opposite Timothée Chalamet.
While seemed as though Hammer’s career was just starting off, it came to a screeching halt when a series of alleged messages that he had sent to a mistress leaked online – and they contained gruesome comments from him discussing rape fantasy and cannibalism.
Soon, a slew of other alleged ex-lovers came forward and accused him of ‘mental, emotional, and sexual abuse’ – with one claiming he begged her to let him ‘break her ribs and eat them,’ and another stating that he carved his initial into her skin with a knife before licking her blood.
And while it seemed like that was the end of Hammer’s acting career, after a nine-month stint in rehab, the shamed star moved back to Los Angeles in July 2022 – and rumors quickly started to spread that he was plotting an acting comeback.
He has now spoken out about his scandals for the first time ever in an explosive new interview, while detailing the own sexual assault he faced at age 13 at the hands of a pastor.
It seems as though Hammer is trying hard to repair his shattered reputation and put his past scandals behind him once and for all – but is it enough for get him back in the public’s good graces?
As the disgraced star breaks his silence and admits to ’emotionally abusing women’ – but insists he didn’t do anything illegal and that all of his relationships were consensual – FEMAIL has recapped the many shock allegations he has faced over the years.
From the creepy messages that allegedly showed him begging to cut off women’s body parts and suck their blood to his attempts to turn his life around and break back into the movie industry, here’s everything you need to know about Hammer’s controversial past.
The beginning of the end: Hammer’s image of perfect husband and doting father was shattered when his wife-of-10-years filed for divorce in July 2020
Hammer married TV personality Elizabeth Chambers (seen in 2018) in May 2010, and together, they welcomed two children over the years – Harper in 2014 and Ford in 2017
The family seemed as happy as could be – until July 2020, when Hammer’s image of a perfect husband and doting father was shattered when his wife-of-10-years filed for divorce
Hammer, who grew up in Santa Monica, California, but moved to the Cayman Islands with his family as a kid, started acting in 2005, at age 19.
’13 years as best friends, soulmates, partners, and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,’ the actor wrote on Instagram at the time. They are seen early on in their romance
By 2020, it seemed as though he was at the height of his career. Following the success of the 2017 romantic drama Call Me By Your Name, the roles came pouring in for Hammer.
His personal life was also flourishing. He married TV personality Elizabeth Chambers in May 2010, and together, they welcomed two children over the years – Harper in 2014 and Ford in 2017.

’13 years as best friends, soulmates, partners, and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,’ the actor wrote on Instagram at the time.
‘As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.
At the time, Hammer claimed that being stuck in lockdown together amid the COVID-19 pandemic was the reason that their marriage dissolved
‘It was a very complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place’ he told British GQ. ‘It was tough. I’d never dealt with anything like that before in my life’
‘We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time.’
At the time, Hammer claimed that being stuck in lockdown together amid the COVID-19 pandemic was the reason that their marriage dissolved, while comparing himself to a trapped ‘wolf’ who wanted to ‘chew his own foot off.’
The couple had been quarantining together with their two kids, as well as his father, Michael, and stepmom, Misty, in the Cayman Islands.
‘It was a very complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place’ he told British GQ in a September 2020 interview.
‘It was tough, man. I’d never dealt with anything like that before in my life, so I didn’t have the tools. It was just this thing that snuck up on everybody.
‘I don’t think I handled it very well. I think, to be quite frank, I came very close to completely losing my mind.
Soon after, rumors erupted that Hammer had been unfaithful to Chambers, with a source claiming that Chambers found passionate messages sent to him from a mystery woman
Some believed that his mistress was none other than his Rebecca co-star Lily James, but that was never confirmed. They are seen together in Rebecca
‘I just felt completely powerless. And I was on an island where the lockdown was so severe that mail couldn’t even come in. I felt so intensely trapped.’
Soon after, rumors erupted that Hammer had been unfaithful to Chambers, with a source telling DailyMail.com that their marriage had actually fallen apart in 2019 – after Chambers found passionate text messages and letters sent to him from a mystery woman who called herself ‘Adeline.’
Some believed that his mistress was none other than his Rebecca co-star Lily James, but that was never confirmed.
And while whispers of a secret affair during Hammer and Chambers’ marriage were certainly not good for the actor, this was just the beginning – his world would soon be rocked by a much-darker scandal that would overshadow his failed marriage.
The horrific allegations: Multiple women accused the actor of cannibalistic acts, with one claiming he asked to ‘break her ribs and eat them,’ and another stating that he carved his initial into her skin with a knife before licking her blood

But she claimed their conversations soon turned gruesome, and that Hammer would discuss numerous rape fantasies with her, and make sexual references to cannibalistic acts such as ‘blood-sucking’ and ‘cutting off her toes.’
In one message, the actor allegedly wrote: ‘I am 100 per cent a cannibal. I want to eat you. F**k. That’s scary to admit. I’ve never admitted that before.’
In another DM, he seemingly said he wanted to remove one of her toes and ‘keep it in his pocket,’ while a fourth read, ‘I need to drink your blood.’
‘You just live to obey me and be my slave. I will own you. That’s my soul. My brain. My spirit. My body,’ Hammer allegedly wrote in another message. ‘Would you come and be my property till you die?’
In an attempt to prove the messages’ authenticity, the anonymous woman also shared private photos that were alleged to be sent from Hammer – including one which showed a man’s hand with a tattoo on his ring finger matching the one Hammer has, and another that appeared to be of Hammer pretending to choke himself.
On Instagram, House of Effie said that other women who allegedly had ‘affairs’ with Hammer approached her with their own horrifying ‘stories’ after she shared the DMs.

She said they had ‘united’ and were able to ‘piece together a five year timeline’ of his alleged activity.
‘When [Hammer] has a fight with his wife, he’d reach out to his kitten, and when they had a fight, the next day he would just reach out to his other kitten with the same message. Naturally all fights revolving around [Hammer’s] bad treatment of women,’ she wrote.
‘We collectively decided we have to speak out after how we were treated. We cannot allow more women to endure what we are going through in the future.’
Soon, more accusations from other women came pouring in. Days later, one of Hammer’s ex-girlfriends spoke to DailyMail.com exclusively about her ‘warped’ relationship with the disgraced actor, and she claimed that he once told her he wanted to ‘break and eat her ribs.’
Courtney Vucekovich, 30, a Dallas, Texas-based app founder, said she met Hammer through mutual friends in June 2020, following his separation from Chambers.
‘He’s a very charming, intense human being. But once you start talking to him, he’s pretty aggressive right from the start. Not violent, but just sexually aggressive in the way he speaks,’ she told DailyMail.com.
‘He’s magnetic, but that has helped him get away with this stuff. He’s a very charming, larger-than-life personality.
‘He’s very affectionate, he makes you feel very safe and kind of on top of the world. Then little by little it gets deeper and darker.
‘He kind of gets obsessed with you. At first you feel really safe, and then it gets a little strange. And then it gets more and more, and little by little you’re like, “What’s happened?”

‘It’s very heavy. I just learned the word “lovebomb” and that’s definitely what he does.’
Vucekovich said he quickly ‘manipulated’ her into playing along with his twisted fetishes, and claimed he would often fantasize about cannibalism.
‘He was really into saying he wants to break one of your ribs and eat it. Like barbecue it and eat it,’ she continued.
‘In terms of the BDSM stuff, he made that pretty clear that it is something he is interested in very early on in the relationship and he referenced breaking my ribs often.’
Vucekovich said that the relationship became so toxic that after it ended, she needed to check herself into a 30-day intensive course of therapy for trauma and PTSD.
‘I was being groomed and brilliantly manipulated to do things that frankly scared me. I’m a consenting adult but it wasn’t me,’ she added.
‘He is good at what he does and knows just what to say to get you to comply. He is a very dark, twisted person.’
Another one of his ex-girlfriend, Paige Lorenze, told DailyMail.com that the actor of used a knife to carve the letter A into her groin area before licking the blood from the wound while they were dating in 2020.
The blond beauty claimed that Armie was fixated with biting her body, begging her to allow him to take lumps of flesh from her arm, before consuming them.
Like Vucekovich, she also said he asked her to have her ribs removed, so that he could barbecue them.

‘Any man who is fantasizing about crushing bones, eating them, having sex with female limp bodies is a danger to all women,’ she said.
‘His actions and behavior are dangerous and emotionally and psychologically damaging.’
Hammer’s lawyer also addressed Lorenze’s accusations in a statement to DailyMail.com. He said : ‘These assertions about Mr. Hammer are patently untrue. Any interactions with this person, or any partner of his, were completely consensual in that they were fully discussed, agreed upon, and mutually participatory.’ Hammer and Lorenze are seen in December 2020
Lorenze called the relationship ‘deeply traumatic’ and said the actor left her with numerous emotional and physical scars.
It was also said that he ‘kept mannequins in the basement of his family home to practice tying women up’ and that he once ‘provoked’ his own dog to bite him.
Hammer responded for the first time to the allegations on January 13, 2020, while announcing that he was dropping out from the movie Shotgun Wedding, after which, he was replaced by Josh Duhamel.
‘I’m not responding to these bulls**t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,’ he said. ‘Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.’

She also voiced her support for survivors of ‘assault or abuse’ in the post, as she claimed she ‘didn’t realize how much’ she ‘didn’t know’ about her ex-husband.
‘For weeks, I’ve been trying to process everything that has transpired,’ Chambers wrote. ‘I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated.
‘Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know.
‘I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal.
‘At this time, I will not be commenting further on this matter. My sole focus and attention will continue to be on our children, on my work and on healing during this incredibly difficult time.
‘Thank you for all of the love and support, and thank you in advance for your continued kindness, respect, and consideration for our children and me as we find ways to move forward.’
The criminal investigation: Police started looking into Hammer after one woman claimed she was violently raped by him in 2017, but no charges were ever brought from the case
In March 2020, it was announced that police were investigating claims that Hammer had raped a young woman, later identified as Efrosina Angelova (seen with Hammer)
The then-24-year-old said the incident took place three years prior, in April 2017, and alleged that Hammer ‘committed acts of violence’ against her which she ‘did not consent’ to
In March 2020, three months after the initial cannibalism accusation hit the web, it was announced that police were investigating claims that Hammer had raped a young woman, who called herself ‘Effie’ but was later identified as Efrosina Angelova.
The then-24-year-old said the incident took place three years prior, in April 2017, and alleged that Hammer ‘committed acts of violence’ against her which she ‘did not consent’ to.
She said he ‘repeatedly slammed her head against a wall’ during the four-hour encounter, and that he also whipped her feet with a crop, leaving her in pain for days.
‘During those four hours, I tried to get away but he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me,’ she said during a press conference.
‘He left with no concern for my well-being. During and since this attack, I have lived in fear of him.’
‘He would often test my devotion to him. He abused me mentally, emotionally and sexually,’ she also told Variety.
Hammer denied the allegations made against him at the time, and his lawyer provided screenshots of alleged text conversations between him and Angelova, in which he seemingly told her they couldn’t pursue a relationship.
The actor’s attorney said: ‘[Angelova’s] own correspondence with Mr. Hammer undermines and refutes her outrageous allegations.
‘As recently as July 18, 2020, [she] sent graphic texts to Mr. Hammer telling him what she wanted him to do to her.
Hammer (seen in 2020) denied the allegations. His attorney said: ‘Angelova’s attention seeking and ill-advised legal bid will make it more difficult for real victims’
‘Mr. Hammer responded, making it clear that he did not want to maintain that type of relationship with her.
‘It was never Mr. Hammer’s intention to embarrass or expose [Angelova’s] fetishes or kinky sexual desires, but she has now escalated this matter to another level by hiring a civil lawyer to host a public press conference.
‘With the truth on his side, Mr. Hammer welcomes the opportunity to set the record straight.
‘From day one, Mr. Hammer has maintained that all of his interactions with [Angelova] – and every other sexual partner of his for that matter – have been completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.
‘[Angelova’s] attention seeking and ill-advised legal bid will only make it more difficult for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve.’
After a nine-month investigation, the LAPD sent its findings to the city’s District Attorney’s office in December 2021.
Sources told TMZ at the time that ‘charges were unlikely’ and that the case against him ‘wasn’t strong.’ No charges have ever been brought regarding the case.

His own aunt, Casey Hammer, even spoke out in the doc. She admitted that she ‘wasn’t shocked’ by the accusations because she believed Hammer was destined to become a ‘monster’ due to ‘abuse’ being ‘a way of life’ in his family, while discussing it with Daily Beast.
In addition, his plans to save his reputation were further shattered when he was sued by credit card company American Express in October 2022, over an unpaid balance of almost $67,000.
TMZ reported at the time that Hammer shared the account in question with his ex Chambers, but the outlet added that the lawsuit was expected to be settled when the couple finalized their divorce.
His response: Hammer addressed his downfall in detail for the first time in February 2023, admitting to ’emotionally abusing women’ but insisting he didn’t do anything illegal and that all of his relationships were consensual
In an explosive new interview with Air Mail , Hammer spoke in detail about the numerous accusations made against him for the first time. He is seen with his family in 2019
In an explosive new interview with Graydon Carter’s Air Mail, Hammer spoke in detail about his fall from the spotlight and the numerous accusations made against him for the first time.
He insisted that while he was an ‘a**hole’ and ‘one million per cent’ emotionally abused younger women, he is not a criminal.
‘I would scoop up these women, bring them into it – into this whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs and big emotions flying around – and then as soon as I was done, I’d just drop them off and move on to the next woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used,’ he claimed.
He also said he was so devastated by the accusations that he attempted suicide in the Cayman Islands.
‘I just walked out into the ocean and swam out as far as I could and hoped that either I drowned, or was hit by a boat, or eaten by a shark,’ Hammer said.
‘Then I realized that my kids were still on shore, and that I couldn’t do that to my kids.’
In addition, Hammer defended his sexual interests by saying he was sexually abused by a youth pastor at age 13.
‘What that did for me was it introduced sexuality into my life in a way that it was completely out of my control,’ he revealed.
‘I was powerless in the situation. I had no agency in the situation. Sexuality was introduced to me in a scary way where I had no control. My interests then went to: I want to have control in the situation, sexually.’
The Call Me By Your Name alum branded himself as a victim of cancel culture, and admitted that he still hopes for a comeback.
‘I’m now a healthier, happier, more balanced person,’ he told the outlet. ‘I’m able to be there for my kids in a way I never was.
He insisted that while he was an ‘a**hole’ and ‘one million per cent’ emotionally abused younger women, he is not a criminal. He is seen in 2019
‘I’m truly grateful for my life and my recovery and everything. I would not go back and undo everything that’s happened to me.’
Hammer explained that he was giving the interview because he wanted to ‘own his mistakes’ and take ‘accountability for the fact that he was selfish and used people to make himself feel better.’
‘There are examples everywhere, of people who went through those things and found redemption through a new path,’ he added.
In addition, Hammer defended his sexual interests by saying he was sexually abused by a youth pastor at age 13. He is pictured for the new interview
‘And that, I feel like, is what’s missing in this cancel-culture, woke-mob business. The minute anyone does anything wrong, they’re thrown away. There’s no chance for rehabilitation.’
In addition, Hammer addressed the rape accusations from Angelova, claiming that it was all a ‘meticulously’ planned ‘scene’ of ‘consensual non-consent.’
