Brits in Spain may be swarmed by billions of angry mosquitoes after huge storms drenched the country.
The notoriously aggressive Asian tiger mosquitoes are expected to flourish in the current wet conditions in Spain, following some of the worst storms in a century.
Officials are calling on people to remove any standing water around their properties to prevent the mozzies, which could potentially be carrying the Zika virus, from hatching.
The insects take 10 to 12 days to hatch and are likely to overrun areas heavily populated by Brits, such as Benidorm and Alicante, which have seen the worst of the downpours.
Authorities are threatening to punish anyone who does not get rid of leftover water with fines of up to £2,600, The Sun reports.
Councillor for Health Valencia Emiliano García said: "The objective is not to sanction but to make people aware that they have to take measures against this breed of mosquito."
An unknown number of the mosquitoes have the potentially deadly Zika virus.
Asian tiger mosquitoes are far more aggressive than their European counterparts.
